Re: Looking for a sailboat

Hi everyone, thanks for the advice and recommendations. I purchased a Hallberg Rassy 31 Monsun. Great boat, and getting ready to leave in mid November to sail down the ICW from Annapolis.

Re: Looking for a sailboat

I always recommend looking on the Great Lakes. Boats have never seen salt. Mostly the systems you want new don’t even exist on these boats. The season is short and most boats only go out on nice weekends. Check yacht clubs and marinas. We kept our boat for several years in Muskegon, Michigan at Torresen Marine. They have a brokerage.

There are many such opportunities around the Lakes. If you can, arrange a car trip and visit a bunch of them.

We exited by the St Lawrence Seaway and around Nova Scotia. This was a great time and an excellent shake down. You can also run the canals to the Hudson River.

If it's on a website, it's already on my list of potentials that I'm browsing - but feel free to shoot me a recommendation. I'm primarily looking to see if anyone knows someone who might have a boat and would consider selling, but doesn't have it posted. Hoping word of mouth might be a different venue.

Here's what I'm looking for as best I can list:
- Monohull
- 30' - 39'
- Price less than $55,000.00 +-
- Condition on par with good, I'm knowing full well I will have to put money into it
- Fiberglass
- Year range (Mid 70's to early 2000's)
- Spade rudder to full keel all considered
- Not too worried about engine condition, sail conditions, or rigging condition, but would like something with at least a solid deck and hull
- I live in Annapolis, so am primarily looking for something in the Maryland, DC, Virginia region (I have limited availability to travel due to work)
- Boats I have on my list to give you an idea, but I'm keeping an open mind: Southern Cross 35, Sea Sprite 34, Contest 36, Hunter Legend, Cape George 31, Alberg 37, Cal 39, Vancouver 36.

There are a few others, but as you can see, some variety.

Thought I would try seeing if collectively, I could knock on some more port lights to find a potential boat. Thanks everyone.
hi daleguy, I sent you a pm regarding your search.

Re: Looking for a sailboat

Free - 1965 Temple 38 designed after the Finnister, looks similar to a Bermuda 40,comes with sails in great shape, rigging. Project boat. Hull in good shape, solid fiberglass. On Tilghman Island. Sister ship still in good shape, but not for sale, so it can be done!
