Here is the link: https://www.cruisersforum.com/forums...+close+to+free
If you go to the Portal tab you'll find on the right side of the screen a search box. Just type in 'Free or close to free' and it will direct you to a page with suggestions. You'll find it there.

Re: Looking for a good place to start

I think someone has already suggested the FREE or CLOSE TO FREE thread...its an awesome thread. There are seriously some really good boats in there sometimes.

https://www.cruisersforum.com/forums...ee-197948.html

You only need to look until you find your boat. I bought a Paceship 29 for $100 and sailed it home. Lots of easy work needed, cleaning and painting mostly, and tons of fun and adventure.

I wish you luck...dreams come true when you add hard work to perseverance.

Thank you guys. Im gonna check those sites out for sure. Sorry if it was a broad question lol, just needed some direction tbh. And yeah eBay and Craigslist are my two favorite sites, also how much are basic solar panels and wind generators?

Re: Looking for a good place to start

Lots of wounded boats here in Abaco. If you are willing and able to do some work you can find some great deals. Mostly dismastings and some hull damage. Will require a trip over but GTC is up and running. We are heads and shoulders over the rest of Abaco!

Re: Looking for a good place to start

I think Good Old Boat magazine have a section for Inexpensive boats.
As for me I would hang out near other sailors. Offer to help with their boat projects. You will pick up lots of knowledge ( and opinions) and maybe an occasional sailboat ride ⛵️
Also visit every marina and boatyard within 100 miles from you. It will help you understand the options and narrow your search

The Rio Dulce in Guatemala is the closest place to you to find "broken dreams" These can be good boats that people have just given up on (and some not so good) but if somebody doesn't come along and snap them up, they'll eventually just rot in which case the owner gets nothing.

If you're heading back to Louisiana, I'd get something big enough that the gators and cotton mouths can't jump in

Re: Looking for a good place to start

I wish I could hang out at ports and stuff, that'd be legit. I'm a few hours away from the ocean and don't have a vehicle.

Ah alright, good to know. Yeah good point haha, I live northern Louisiana so it's actually not too bad in my area. Do see a few but not in our back yards ;D

Damned Cotton Mouths are everywhere down there. Years ago my uncle bought a forty acre spread about twenty miles south of Prairie Grove, in the Ozarks. One summer when I visited, it was hot as hell and big time humid for being that high in the mountains. My cousin and I would go down to Fall Creek and swim in the hole there to cool off. One day we decided to check out what was down stream. We didn't get fifty feet before we realized the whole place was crawling with Cotton Mouths. After that we got ourselves one of those blow up kiddie pools to wallow in

That's hilarious , dude yeah the cottonmouths are pretty bad. The alligators aren't as bad as one would think. I've seen videos of that stuff before. It scares me, thinking of falling in falling in even more lol

I think the gators are more down south where they can chomp on all those Nutra rats.

Try your local Marinas, there are boat owners that stop paying storage fees and marina owners will cut a deal to make room for boat owners that want to store their boat and able to pay.
