Re: Looking For a Free Catamaran to call home
Since OP has first dibs on a Catamaran, I'll refrain from asking for one for myself.
if anyone has a free Southerly 480, I have a similar dream and would be willing to travel anywhere to pick it up.

I am hoping to find someone in a giving mood that wants to give their catamaran away to a good home. My wife and I are wanting to move onto a Catamaran and sail around. We currently don't have the money to purchase a boat but who knows maybe by pure chance, luck, or Gods grace we will get offered an amazing opportunity!
Were willing to travel to get to the boat and so far our favorite boats have been Knysnas and Privileges 40-50 foot range. But beggars cant be chooser

You have balls my friend! It’s not unheard of. If you are in the right place at the right time it could happen.
Imagine a new to boating couple buying a catamaran because they have unlimited funds and think it’ll be fun. They go on an overnight shakedown cruise without checking the weather and get hit by mother natures fury. When they finally arrive at the dock the next day the wife says, “It’s me or this damn boat!” You happen to be standing on the dock. He chooses wisely and tosses you the keys!

Re: Looking For a Free Catamaran to call home
I occasionally see free catamarans on Craigslist that do not need to much, and would be perfect for a trip down the Sea of Cortez. They are typically Hobies and usually 14's or 16's. So if you camp on beaches it would be fine. A guy last name of Fenger as I recall cruised from Venezuela to almost Florida as I recall a hundred years ago on a sailing kayak. So it is possible. And the yacht "Jack de Crow" travelled from Central England to the Black Sea almost but was also quite small and required sleeping ashore in the bushes.

If you were to open a non-profit then the owner can donate it to you, and write off the value. That could appeal to people who have a need for a big tax write off.

OK.....I was going to give you mine but it's only 42' (and not your brand of choice!) I smell troll breath but I'm bored at work and will play ball!
You can make this work one of two ways:
1) Get a mail order minster's credential and start a floating church. People are known to give lots of $$ associated with JC!
2) (better option) Get breast augmentation for wife/GF and setup a YouTube channel, Patreon account, Go Fund Me, etc. online presence and have at it.

Re: Looking For a Free Catamaran to call home
A guy in my marina handed over the keys to his mechanic for a very good condition sea ray 380 sundancer because he couldn’t dock it in his slip. The mechanic sold it within a month.
Good luck to the op. Unfortunately the purchase is only part of the cost.

Re: Looking For a Free Catamaran to call home
Purchase price is the least of it. The real costs come after you buy it. How are you going to pay to maintain and operate it if you can't afford to buy it in the first place?

Re: Looking For a Free Catamaran to call home
There are plenty of sailors who set off around the world on very cheap or free boats.
Read up on a few, starting with chasing the horizon by Fatty Goodlander.
Or Swell, or Slocum, the Pardy's, etc. Don't expect anyone to give you a million $ cat ready to go to sea, but if you have the energy, skills, time and money, you could find a way to realise your dreams. Plenty of storm damaged boats just waiting for a new owner.
Or you could get jobs on charter boats or private yachts, working together, saving all your $ to buy your own.

It's tough to hear you speak about wanting, not only a catamaran, but a 40-50 footer, and you've even got your favorite brands in mind. I don't know you, but your checklist hints of lunacy.
You could find a free monohull much more easily. Keep in mind that anything you get for free will need a lot of work and significant money to make liveable, let alone seaworthy.
Best of luck to you, and may the world let you down... gently.

Re: Looking For a Free Catamaran to call home
I know this may be crazy but I am looking for a free Gulfstream G5 executive jet, full fuel tanks and free flying lessons until I am certified in the jet! I am just so stressed by having to fly commercialI can’t take it anymore. If anybody has an extra G5 sitting around please send me a private message and thanks.
