Re: Looking for a $10k liveable Sailboat
You can find something cheap on craigslist or ebay or, if you can, visit some boatyards and marinas and talk to as many folks as you can... someone may even give you a free older boat. I wouldn't necessary count on it, but it happens... If you are handy, a lot of used and salvaged parts are readily available in SE Florida. I hope you are young - comfort and safety can get costly, but you can prioritize and the dream is totally worth it. I spent 13 months sailing from Canada to the US, Bahamas, Cuba and back on a $3500 sailboat. It was a dream and I would hapilly do it again.

Wiring, electronics, etc.
Even if you knew how to do everything yourself you are still talking $10k’s assuming there us nothing major wrong. If it was blocked slightly wrong the hull could be deformed especially in the Alaskan weather.

That looks like it could be a very nice boat. Assuming your $10,000 figure is correct ( and it could be less) it looks to me like you could get that boat going for quite a bit less than $20,000.

The only real negative is it's in Seward AK....not a great place to live and work on a boat. Brrrrr...!!

$45k in this market gets you a hull with crevice-corroded standing rigging, mast compression, corroded thru-hulls on the brink of failure, and deck-core rot / delamination. If metal is more your vibe, it gets you a steel hull made of oxide dust barely held together with sloppy epoxy which you will need to replate considerably.
$10k will buy you years in a boatyard and at least $50k in sunk costs, now. The era of finding a cheap older boat and fixing it just enough to sail - is over.

Incorrect. I have a 27' Albin Vega that I crossed oceans with and is ready at this moment to do it again. I've actually gone over her with a fine-tooth comb this spring and refit, replaced halyards and electrical panel and had her surveyed last week. In my yard on registered trailer Vancouver Island BC for $13,000 CAD/$11,000 USD.

Re: Looking for a $10k liveable Sailboat
I think the best boat I have owned was a 1976 Cal 29. It is fast and well built, over built. A few years ago I saw two for less than $5000. Headroom and bunks more than 6'. Replace the rigging yourself using Staylock fittings and you are under $10000.

Three interesting boats on Cape Cod.
Just finished reading "Taken by the Wind" by Mike Jacker. Excellent story for putting such a voyage into perspective. "Orca" by Pennington is another useful read.

I think it has been about a week since the OP chimed in. As with most new members on CF, they may be on to bigger and better things on other forums asking pertinent questions there.

Celestialsailor: The question asked by OP has been answered so many times. Yet, I find the "thought of the day" from regular contributors illuminating. tx

Not double the budget.. stick with the prospectus.

The budget was $10K if it needed work, $20K if it's was ready to go.

I need a reliable boat for some point go to Brazil. At the moment, i'm not a very experienced sailor, this will be my firts oceanic sailboat. I'm looking for something like a 30ft (or bigger), with a standing headroom, i'm 6’3” height...
If you have any advice for me, i'm open to it as well, thank you all

I have seen probably 16 17 liveaboards for sale that are blue water worthy; both sail and cruisers in the 20K range over the past few months.
Actually seen 7 in person between 10~20K.
Few needed some TLC...some needed...4~8K in engine work...DIY and save more.
All were blue water worthy. A few actually just came back from Jamaica or the Bahamas.
All were located in Florida except 3 which were in Houston.
14 had current US Coast Guard certification.
Also seen many...vastly overpriced.
Gasoline prices...people are not buying and or sellers are selling at give away prices in some cases.
I'd rather buy a boat needing some repairs....not significant repairs...but probably 10K area. DIY and you'll learn your vessel.
Many boat for sale periodicals around.
Craigslist.org...southern Florida.
Type in...live aboard or liveaboard or sailboat. Search radius of 150 miles.
Panhandle had some, Tampa had some.
Southern California had many.
Many sailboats...40 foot and under that are blue water ready in the 20K range. Few had fresh water maker.
Just have to search. Go in person.
And have cash.
Flop down 20~25K cash on some 30K asking price...majority will sell.
Many say....well...I have others interested. OK then....why didn't you sell then? I have cash now.
Don't go with a broker...middleman. Everybody wants a piece of the action but come repair time...no one wants to chip in! Hell with brokers. Talk for yourself.

Sure but how safely? And a complete novice sailor?
That would be stupid.
