World Cruising -- Passage Maker -- Bluewater Cruiser
You can read about boats like this and dream, or you can take the helm of this beauty and cruise the world. The Hans Christian 41T yacht is recognized around the world as “the” quintessential ocean cruiser. It is one of Hans Christian's Traditional Series boats and features the popular Molokai layout with two heads and two cabins.
Ask why we bought this boat: it is sea kindly and live-aboard friendly. It is the right size and well equipped for a short-handed crew. [Taken during new LED light install - completed]
Because cruising boats spend on average 80% of their time on anchor or in port, a spacious cabin with plenty of storage provides you a waterfront home wherever you journey.
This special HC41T is for sale by her original owners who have had 30 years of passage-making enjoyment, while keeping it in top condition. A major interior renovation and remodel has enhanced the truly beautiful design. Extensive upgrades include a NEW engine and drive train, NEW refrigeration and stove, NEW water maker, NEW holding tank and NEW Type 3 MSD, and lots more.
If you are ready for world adventures, look over the full specifications and review the many recent upgrades and extras that make this an exceptional boat.
Laughing Buddha is currently at Port Annapolis Marina, Annapolis, MD, and a representative available to assist prospective/interested buyers with a tour. You can locate a complete set of specifications on-line, or you can access our “Owner’s Brochure” here:

Re: Laughing Buddha -- an Exceptional Hans Christian 41T
Just contacting you to see how that Alado furler held up during your voyage. We are about to pull the trigger on one for our 47 foot boat for our next voyage. We had one on a Cal 34 but want to know of some real world experience using this furler on a large, heavy boat on an ocean crossing. Your boat (or previous boat?) is the largest one we have seen reference to. Can you tell me how it went with that furler?

Re: Laughing Buddha -- an Exceptional Hans Christian 41T
Very well, and thanks for asking.
It is simple, and strong. We used one on the genoa for several years, and then decided to add to the staysail as well. Had to get the staysail re-cut - remove the hanks and add luff tape. Also had the storm jib set up to slide over a furled sail - like the Gail Sail.
The Laughing Buddha is 51 feet overall, and the only slightly annoying issue with the Alado, is how you stabilize the lower drum components. But worked well and easy to maintain - no bearings to replace, and the sail "loads" the entire stay due to the internal bearings on the foils. Why we replaced the Pro-Furl? Bearings are a pain to maintain.
Hope that is helpful.
Regards, Jim

Winter is slow, but spring just around the corner.
Used/Cruising Boats show in March as I recall.

Re: Laughing Buddha -- an Exceptional Hans Christian 41T
Might I take a little of your time and enquire as to who built your hard dodger, more specifically who therma formed the front windows?
I built a hard dodger, only a "little " better that yours and had to learn about therma forming acrylic.
There's very few people who have knowledge on how to do it and even fewer that have actually done it.
Was it you? That is acrylic? No mechanical fixings by the look of it, bedded in Dow 295 I presume?
Thanks for your time.

Re: Laughing Buddha -- an Exceptional Hans Christian 41T
The hard dodger is a composite foam and glass build. The build was accomplished in the same "shop" we helped build a 50foot+ catamaran using the same technique.
The lights (windows) are perspex (aka acrylic) were thermoformed in Whangārei, New Zealand in a huge furnace. As I recall about 8 x 20 feet and gas fired. The trick with forming "plastics" is getting the moisture out before actually heating to bend temperature. That is a big problem with Lexan etc. Because of the challenge, we sought some help.
We left the dodger with them as a "mold" and they did the work while we went for provisions. Picked it all up and later the same day, and the next adhered the perspex to the dodger with a 3M product. Sorry don't recall its exact specs - but has been flawless for 20 years. Some slight environmental changes over time - but still fully serviceable and stronger than plastic windows on a soft dodger.
Any other details - just ask.I'd like to see pics of yours. PM if you'd like and we can share details.
Cheers - Jim

My dream boat right there.
Looks like you have done an amazing job as her custodian.
The next custodian will be very fortunate indeed.

Re: Laughing Buddha -- an Exceptional Hans Christian 41T
Thank you for your kind words. We have enjoyed our life and time with Laughing Buddha. It has provided lessons not available in other life styles.
We anticipate some separation anxiety when turned over, and hope the new custodians are equally pleased, mindful, and caring.
We created a Haiku early in our cruising life:
