Islander 36 in Kauai

It seems that despite my best efforts to sail on, I am trapped here in Hawaii. So I am reluctantly selling.

Located in Lihue, Kauai.

Minggat is a 1973 tricked out Islander 36. The year before fire retardant screwed up the resin formula. So don’t cry “too old”. Blister free and epoxy barrier coated x2.

In addition to all the goodies aboard, I just spent over $25,000 painting top and bottom. She’s glossy pretty.

Sistered in keel bolts (now 16 of them) 2016

Vulnerable prop strut replaced with a “mini keel”, which is not only far stronger than the original, but finally enabled proper engine alignment. Point is, a manufacturer defect discovered, corrected and vastly improved. Original remaining tab of the prop strut is encased in solid fiberglass. No naked shaft forward of the cutlass bearing.

Folding prop.

Bulkheads tabbed in (a known I36 issue).

Repowered in 2006. Perkins 4-108.

Dual & independent fuel polishing setups.

Standing rigging 2016.

Lithium batteries 2022

Stand alone refrigerator draws 9-12 amp hours all night.

Nema 2000. Furuno MFD at the nav station , AND Simrad display at the binnacle, but everything including Radar also displays on iPads. Vesper AIS transponder. Ultrasonic weather sensor at the top of the mast. No spinning/vulnerable whirly-gig.

New Sarca Excell anchor with breakout setup (a fouled anchor retrieval system) and new chain. Windlass… of course.

Hardtop on the dodger.

Stern arch, with it integral outboard engine hoist. Solar panels & Bimini.

Hydrovane self steering.

2500 watt inverter.

She’s a heavily modified and beefed up boat, with an embarrassing and stupid amount of money thrown at her. Just getting the v-berth mattress right was over $2000.

If you’re looking at these boats, you’ll see that them mid $30K in clean condition. Sometimes you’ll see them $60K+ when they are outfitted a bit more. This one is maintained, modified and outfitted well beyond any similar boat that I have seen. Stern arch, which makes a great home for the solar panels, and the Hydrovane and dodger hardtop are just a couple of points you won’t likely find.

So as you have read through this, I hope that you see that I haven’t skimped on putting my cruising boat together.

Asking $80,K with the big water maker. $70K without it.

More pics

BTW,

If I do manage to get Minggat to Fiji, she will still be for sale there.

Looking for qualified crew to help me get there during this current weather window, which closes in July.
