Re: Gulfstar 50

have you tried the usual listings, yachtworld, sailboatlistings, boattrader etc??

Might help to mention where you are at and where you are looking.

There are two different Gulfstar 50's btw, the more common ketch version, and the lesser seen Sailmaster...which one of those are you looking for..??

Re: Gulfstar 50

Too bad you just missed it. One of the Forum members just sold a beautiful one, completely kitted out for long-term cruising.

Why didn't you buy Chotu's?

Hi,

Thank you. I have tried the usual listings. For the right boat the location doesn't really matter. We are in New England, so ideally the East cost. The also come in a 2 or 3 cabin layout. Though we would prefer a 3 cabin, the right 2 cabin might fit our needs. I would like it to be 1977 to 1980, but we can work with that as well. If you have a Gulfstar 50 that is, or might be for sale, lets talk.

We started our search after she sold. It was my google search that lead me to Chotu's thread on this site. Day late, but wouldn't have been a dollar short. Hopeful there will be another one!

Oh well.

Sorry, to burst your bubble, but there aren't a whole lot of them out there. Try PM'ing Chotu. He's a great guy (also deep-in-refit/build of his 50' catamaran). He might know of an Owner's association or somebody he knows who wants to sell theirs.

You might also try Green Cove Springs yards in Florida. I understand there are innumerable boats on the hard there, mid-refit. You might luck out and find one - but then you'd have to put in some serious sweat equity to get her up to snuff.

Oh, and you'll want to update your profile to reflect where you are on the planet.

(Remember, this is an international forum! )

There are three on Yachtworld in the US, two of which are in New England.

I can’t blame you for that. I know firsthand the amount of work that can be poured into any vessel. Unfortunately, once folks get them complete, they hate to sell them. I have looked at a lot of these Gulfstar 50’s. You travel all that way only to find that the photos aren’t current or have been enhanced to make the boat look much better than it really is. My choice was to find one that was solid, take care of the cosmetics myself, and then end up with one that I didn’t want to sell. You just never know what kind of curveballs life is going to toss your way so now it’s time to pass this one on. I wish you the best of luck with your search.
