Please forgive me:
12 years ago, I was on the first leg of a shakedown
cruise following nearly 2 years in a
work yard, tuning up our sailboat home Flying Pig, for her next
cruise.
That turned out to be mere occasional brief excursions, and she is now
sold with the hopes of her new owner that her travels will once again be epic. The maiden voyage was (epic), and convinced him that he didn't really have the chops to go RTW as he'd dreamed of doing his entire adult life; Flying Pig is now
on the hard in
Portland ME and he proclaims that he'll let it go for a song (the cost of the new anchors, chain and
gypsy, and
LiFePO4 replacement of my FLA monsters); do not reply here if you'd like to investigate that offer; PM or
email me, my name, all one word, at gmail. But I digress:
But at the time, my then-88-year old mother-in-law was still pretty feisty (she's since graduated), as well as relatively computer literate for one who started only 5 years earlier.
I had a separate, unlimited minutes,
cell phone for her technical support, on which I averaged more than an hour a day.
However, at one point, she became so frustrated with her computer that she punched it and broke her hand.
I added, to her offerings, tech knuckle support.
If you've read this far, yes, the
boat part is true...
