Cruise-Ready 1987 Ericson 38-200




























































For Sale: 1987 Ericson 38-200 Cruising Sailboat,
Designed by Bruce King as a Performance Cruiser

The boat has just undergone an extensive refit, but change in life plans force sale. You can either buy a similar classic boat and spend months and tens of thousands of dollars in a boatyard as we did, buy a newer but inferior boat for a lot more money, or buy this cruise-ready classic. I have receipts, pictures, and invoices for the work that has been completed!


  • Refit 2018-19 Highlights
    • Standing Rigging Replaced
      • Port intermediate and cap shroud chainplates also replaced; have custom Garhauer u-bolts to replace the rest
      • Headstay chainplate removed, inspected, and bolts replaced with new
      • Backstay chainplate removed, inspected, and re-bedded
      • Mast painted with polyurethane paint while on the ground
    • All New Electronics in 2019!
      • Brand New CPT Autopilot steers the vessel with ease in any sea
      • Brand New B&G wind speed, direction, and depth instruments with Triton T41 displays, thru-hull transducer, and wireless ws320 wind transducer, installed on a nmea2000 circuit protected by TVSS.
      • Brand New Garmin HD+ 18” Radar and 942xs touchscreen GPS/Chartplotter/Fishfinder combo, which integrate with the ship’s nmea2k network
        • Secured to brand-new seaview radar mount riveted to mast
      • Brand New Garmin 210 VHF Radio w/ AIS and nmea2k, protected by TVSS device and coaxial gas-block surge protector
    • Full Bottom Job, with existing blisters repaired properly utilizing biaxial fiberglass cloth and West System Epoxy
      • Afterwards, faired with 404, sanded smooth, and painted
      • Painted with Petit multi-season ablative paint
      • Shaft anode changed
    • Manual anchor windlass added, ground tackle overhauled
      • Anchor locker pan was beefed up with plywood coring coated with fiberglass and epoxy
        • Plywood reinforcement added to deck flange where pan is screwed down into
        • Result is pan is so strong now that multiple can stand in it!
        • Foam insulation also added underneath pan to insulate front cabin
      • 55’ of 5/16” galvanized chain spliced to 200’ of 3/4” three strand nylon rode to work with windlass and 35 lb. Bruce Anchor
        • Anchor chain is now stored below the pan where it drops freely into an integrated chain locker, accessible from the front v-berth
      • All penetrations through pan and flange were drilled out and filled with epoxy and then sealed with butyl tape
    • 3-blade Bronze Propeller reworked, balanced, and polished by General Propeller in Sarasota, FL
      • Increased speed under power by over 1kt!
    • Engine Serviced
    • 1500W Pro Mariner True Power Plus Inverter Added
      • Installed to 3x 100aH AGM batteries
      • Fused properly and installed with properly gauged wire
    • 3x 100w Renogy Solar Panels added along with 20 amp charge controller
    • Running Rigging renewed where needed and otherwise in very good condition
      • New main halyard
      • New reef 1 line
      • New reef 2 line
      • New dyneema topping lift
    • Lifelines in good order
      • Two replaced due to hairline cracks in swages, others had been replaced prior
    • Sails inspected and repaired where necessary by a reputable sail loft and deemed to be in exceptional condition
    • Brand new LED foredeck, bow, and stern lights installed
      • All cabin fixtures fitted with LED bulbs
    • Outside and inside continually cleaned and polished
    • All opening ports resealed with new weather stripping
    • Custom shower sump built and new pump added

Reduced to $64,995.00; may consider a partial trade for a newer, smaller boat on the US east coast.
