Contessa 35 - Alternative?
I have searched north, south, east, and west in the search for the Contessa 35. Because it seems to me that it is an amazing and ideal boat for my needs at this point in my life. But, it seems that there are none on the market at the moment. It is actually rewarding to think that I actually am searching for what seems to be a very capable and very well designed boat. Perhaps I am just 10-20 years too late.
There are still some Contessa OOD34's but most have had a hard life with sailing schools. Also, the OOD34 has a kitchen the size of a postage stamp. Which is not ideal for me (I love to cook).
There are also a couple of Contessa 38's that seem the same internals as a 35 but just like to pay more in the marina.
So, back to my wanting to buy an alternative to the Contessa 35. Please, today would be nice

Re: Contessa 35 - Alternative?
The reason you can't find Contessa 35s in North America is they're all in Europe.
Try Apollo Duck www.apolloduck.com
Good luck,

Re: Contessa 35 - Alternative?
Sadly the world has started focussing on them after the mad Viking decided to go sailing in a F10 off Norway and enjoyed himself. The YT series is NBJS (No bull****, Just Sailing)
Actually I don't think they made anything like the number of 35s compared to the better known 32. Having sailed a 32, its not for me, just too cramped.
How about one of these, there is normally a couple on the market at any one time:

Re: Contessa 35 - Alternative?
Hi,
I have an 1984 Contessa 35 build by Jeremy Rogers and design by Doug Peterson.
Simple Pleasures is located in San pedro, California and there was another 35 in Marina del Rey.
Let me have any if you have any questions.

No location as boats can sail between different countries, so I have been told. I am currently in Spain and know how to use an airport.

Re: Contessa 35 - Alternative?
You can do what the owners of a Tayana 37 did...
https://youtu.be/gaA3fotJnz0
They contacted all the current owners of the model they wanted and asked them if they were interested in selling their boats...

A lot will depend on where you are located. Here in North America you'll only find the 26 and 32. Both were built by J.J. Taylor in Toronto.

It helps us advise you though.. being in Europe helps us this side guide you to boats whereas if you were based Stateside it's a different ball game.
No need for the sarcasm..

Mind you'll likely say these suck.. in which case go for the Contessa 38 as berths are priced 8-10metres, 10-12metres and so on so a 35ftr will cost the same as a 38ftr.

Re: Contessa 35 - Alternative?
Ok, so if you don't mind travelling then the Peterson 34s in the US are very similar and are very cheap over here. The Cavalier 35 in New Zealand is likely the same design as the Contessa or very close. I believe there was a offshore equipped 34 in Fiji that sailed down from California.

lol, but you need to factor in the travel costs (and current limits on travelling). Currently many places require a 14 day quarantine when you get there and when you get home... it's not the same environment as jetting off to buy a boat in 2019...

Confused? Why?
They wanted a Tayana 37. They contacted all the existing owners they could find and asked if anyone wanted to sell theirs...
You want a Contessa 35.
Locate as many existing owners as possible.
Ask them if they want to sell...
It's a lot easier than waiting for one to be listed...
