Catalina 470

Hi, I'm currently in Panama heading of to Mexico in a couple of days where I will be putting my Catalina 470 2001 on the market.

I'm putting her up for sale at a very aggressive price, I can do this as the Australian dollar has collapsed and works for me when selling in usd. The boat is in such condition she could leave this hour to cross the Pacific, shes fully prepared including stocked with food.

Sukha is advertised at a cheap price to get a quick sale, compare her to other Catalina 470's for sale, she is a good one going cheap...shes not a cheap boat.

PRICE: 145K usd, It makes her the best value Catalina 470 on the market by far. Two others that are almost as cheap have been severely hurricane damaged in the past, Sukha has never had damage.

I wanted a modern design to cruise the world, and I wanted the most bang for my buck C470 worked for me due to the following:

It has a lead keel,* most boats today have cast iron, they dont use cast iron because it's better, they use it because it's cheaper.

All the bulkheads a glassed in where alot of boats today have glued in bulkheads.*

Theres no liners other than the bathrooms therefore you have access to the entire hull if you need to view it to access damage in the event of a bad grounding,* this cant be done in most modern boats or even older ones for different reasons.**

The hull below waterline is 1 inch solid glass, I've had transducers out and measured.*

The keel is mounted to a keel stub, much better design than most. This is also gives you a big bilge, most modern boats dont have that.

The rigging is very strong , 7/16 and 3/8 this includes the chain plates , excellent design, no water can leak in and rot stuff.

Twin wheels have* independent cables ,if one breaks you still have the other wheel.

The rudder lower third is sacrificial in the event of a hard grounding, this protects the rudder giving you enough to steer and get you home.

A very large frame is the backbone of the hull, this is not only immensely strong but is glassed into the boat, not glued like many grid systems are.

Good sea galley, useable.

Collision bulk head upfront and one of the strongest bow roller setups .

The fore foot of the hull isnt quite as flat as other brands, she doesn't slam.

All in all I found her better built than much of the competition.

INVENTORY:

Sukha is the deep draft , standard rig version. I wanted the deep draft as I believe they sail better, so far this has proven to be true, the shallow draft version has 660 lbs more lead to achieve the same stability and I dont like wings.

Yanmar 4JH3-TE has 2,040 hrs on it as of typing. The engine is in perfect condition and burns no oil, starts instantly, these are fantastic engines. Both heat exchangers and turbo reconditioned in Capetown 3 mths ago as part of preventative maintaince. Yanmar mechanic believes engine is in very good condition, Im also a motor mechanic and agree with his assessment.*

The below is in no specific order, I'm typing as stuff comes to mind. She is a fully equipped world cruising boat ready to go.

Mainsail new 2018 Zoom sails (inmast furling).

110% Genoa new June 2017 UK sails.

100% jib new 2016, first used 2018, UK sails.

Code zero on RLG Evo 10 continuous line furler.

Assymetrical spinnaker 2016 in ATN sock (used 2 times).

I deliberately dont have a big genoa, for general cruising i find the better shape jib or 110 a better sail, if its light I use the code zero. I found the genoa was a sail trying to be everything and its not, the smaller headsail combined with code zero is a much better arrangement IMHO. I never use the spinnaker , I find the code zero a much more versatile sail.

Below is in no particular order, im typing as equipment comes to mind.

Icom IC-M802 HF marine radio with pactor modem.

9505a Iridium sat phone with pc data connection kit.

Standard Horizon matrix Vhf radio with ais reciever.

Re: Catalina 470

These are a great boat. A cruising friend of ours had one in the South Pacific. Built for the purpose, they were designed and built specifically for offshore sailing, not your typical Catalina. The gear is extensive and from what I'm reading high quality. I've sailed a sister ship and they are a very nice sailing boat. This looks to me like a wonderful opportunity to buy and sailaway...these don't come up that often.

Hi Robert, after 30,000+nm's I can truly say they are a good world cruising vessel, shes crossed 4 oceans, safely, fast and in relative comfort , sails well, only 2000 hrs on the yanmar. She is not a tired boat, she still presents very well.

As I said I can do the price in order for a quick sale because the aud has depreciated 24% since I purchased her allowing me to still do ok in my money. Of course you never get all your money back, I've put 70,000+(easily)into her in recent years, I never hesitate to spend if needed.

Beautiful boat! She looks like the 2-stateroom layout? I'm looking for 3 cabins but want to be sure.

Thanks!

Re: Catalina 470

Not heading to Mexico now. They've closed the borders along the way.

If boat doesn't sell in the next 2-3weeks I'm heading into the Pacific.

I'm open to offers within reason, theres a great buy for someone here.

Good to see you're selling before the rush mate. There's going to be thousands of bargains on the market within weeks I think.

Well, Dale, I reckon you are better off out here somewhere than boatless on shore. I know what I would do in your place!

Good luck with it all, mate... we're hunkering down in Tassie ourselves!

Re: Catalina 470

Hi Jim, Sukha is fully stocked and fueled, she can head west at a moment's notice.

We just did a final shop, who knows if we can get back a shore in two weeks time, the world's going crazy, but don't worry, we have plenty of toilet paper

Heading to Las Perles ( islands 30nm from Panama city)for two weeks to chill out and then I'll access situation, theres a good chance I'll see you in Tassie next summer

I dont expect Sukha to sell right now due to current events BUT she is a bargain, the aud is sinking fast that makes my price quite negotiable, I just keep all options open.

I hope all will end well BUT if theres a complete financial collapse I'd rather be off the Australian coast than the central American coast.

I've got a good mate onboard that will crew with me , hes almost the perfect crew, just wrong gender and not pretty
