Re: Bluewater cruiser 12m+, EU-taxed

Could I suggest on a budget of 80-100k , as you say , rightly holding back fitout and upgrade money , you are kidding yourself thinking you’ll get an oyster , Amel , HR , etc over 40 feet , this money is square in the good quality Bavaria , benny , Jenny market especially at the moment

You need a much bigger budget or trim your expectations, or you’ll end up with a “ projectboat that will drain all your money , don’t mix boat building and boat sailing , two way different hobbies.

Agreed, the OP is dreaming by choosing some of the high end Scandinavian manufacturers. I suggestion something like this, or as Phil said the Oceanlord. Ask him to deliver the Oceanlord to which ever med port you fancy.

Re: Bluewater cruiser 12m+, EU-taxed

Bonjour,
I have a Westerly Oceanlord that I should like to offer for your consideration.
Briefly: it’s blue water ready - solar, windgen, autopilot, radar, AIS B transceiver, chart plotter, hydrovane self steering, stack pack main, Schaefer furling headsaiy, 4 new 110A house batteries, 4kW generator , hypalon tender, 7 1/2 hp o/b etc. It’s VAT paid and has been berthed in Ouistreham, Normandy, France for the last 3 years. It is part 1 UK registered and I am the sole owner - I own it outright: no mortgage. I am a Brit ex-pat French resident. My boat is currently ashore for anti-fouling, polishing etc. My email is geoffnebel@gmail.com

Given the budget and the requirements of the OP an Oceanlord is a reliable and comfortable bluewater cruiser.

“Nice boat, but very cramped by today’s standards…”????
When were you - ‘Go boating now’ - last onboard an Oceanlord, let alone sailed offshore on one? I respectively suggest your opinion is perhaps conditioned by the floating caravans rolling off the production lines of Beneteau and Bavaria…

Irish/EU anti Brit bias..
They (Westerly) built awesome boats.. El Penguino has been sailing his Westerly between Oz and Peru and the Cape for years and he loves his boat.

I had a friend in cork who owned one. I sailed quite a bit in one. Cramped, dated, but well built. Designed for midgets . Very small for a 41 footer , I was also in the westerly factory in Waterlooville many many years ago.

I suspect I have more British blood in my family line then u. My comments ( like you mentioned in the US exit papers ) are based on my personal experience as well as being 6’4” .like you my opinions are based on my practical experience

As I said nice boats but cramped ( for me )

Tounge in cheek humour mate..
Doubts on the 'more Brit blood' however.. we were the guardians of the Empire..
But you have to admit the character of the 2 B's and Jeaneau around the great Capes would make them bouncy toys with their flat bottoms and vast interiors become a handicap..
The OP has a certain type of sailing in mind that is not Med or Milk Run cruising.
