Start by looking for an Acapulco 40. The hull and rigging is perpetually ready for blue water. Then fill it with the accessories you need. They are for sale in that range.

Re: Bluewater Circumnavigation Capable Sailboat 50K

I have a seaworthy Morgan 41' OutIsland ketch in Corpus Christi ready to go for 40K, 6kw generator, two new Marinair AC units professionally installed, new 6 cf freezer, you'd still have 10K left for your cruising kitty!

Suggest you increase your price range for a bluewater boat . Suggest you contact Rich Kahn at 410-980-5096 in Annapolis MD at Rich@sailyard.com who has a 36 ft Tashiba, a true bluewater boat suitable for worldwide cruising.

Re: Bluewater Circumnavigation Capable Sailboat 50K

I own a Vagabond 47 and bought it for around USD 80.000,-- By now I am on 160.000 and this is about 10.000,-- manhours and 70.000,-- materials.

So I think a ready to circumnavigate real bluwater ship will not go away below 120.000,--.

OK you buy for 80 and work 5 years to come to 160.

Check out Craigslist Maine. I see quite a few on there that fit that description.

Re: Bluewater Circumnavigation Capable Sailboat 50K

I have a 27' Albin Vega I bought for under $20k. It took me to Hawaii and back 4 years ago and several of these have circumnavigated. Your dream is within reach.

Re: Bluewater Circumnavigation Capable Sailboat 50K

I would contend that if you are prepared to spend $50k for a RTW boat you should be prepared to spend a further $50k to get it ready to your required specification . You could spend less if you are prepared to do most of the work yourself. A bargain priced boat (50k) that is robust enough will likely be old - and if a boat is old it Is likely to require upgrading and be in need of maintenance. I would suggest that you need to ensure you get a high quality survey before you buy to ensure that you understand the issues and manage your expectations.

Re: Bluewater Circumnavigation Capable Sailboat 50K

I will post again that you absolutely can do this for the amount of money you have. Just be flexible on the size. Plenty of 30' and smaller boats can circumnavigate- especially if you're planning to use the Panama Canal.

What's more important to you: circumnavigating or having a large boat? That's really the only question.

Re: Bluewater Circumnavigation Capable Sailboat 50K

There is an Ingrid 38 ketch for sale at Apponaug Cove in Warwick RI for $12K. She is not in any way ready for an ocean crossing, but she has good rigging and a ton of sails.....be one helluva start.

Re: Bluewater Circumnavigation Capable Sailboat 50K

you might have jagged it + or Minus 10%

there is a really tidy Tartan 37 - well found - careful and considerate owners - and time is moving on

Problem is its on the other side of the planet - OZ - but worth the look in either case - for what you have said - this is probably turn key to your considerations

https://yachthub.com/list/yachts-for...rtan-37/232865

all the best -
