Any boat anywhere that needs to be loved and used
Susie, my 22 year old daughter, has set her heart on getting a boat, as she wants to sail the seven seas and have adventures.
The slight flaw in her plans is that she has very little money, but that's not the sort of thing to daunt her. She's an enormously determined, practical and capable girl that can achieve anything she sets her mind to and, of course, she has the support and encouragement of her parents and her five siblings.
So I'm wondering if there is anyone out there that is coming to the end of their sailing adventures and wants to pass on their much-loved boat to someone that will cherish her and take her on to further adventures. Susie has a small amount of savings, but limitless drive and enthusiasm. She's not looking for a free boat, but the cost would need to be fairly nominal.
At the age of eleven, Susie sailed with the family from England down to the Canary Islands and across the Atlantic to the Caribbean and then back across the Atlantic to our home in Scotland. Since then she has sailed from Scotland to the Mediterranean and back. On her eighteenth birthday she achieved RYA Coastal Skipper and Yachtmaster Navigation and has spent much of her time on the water ever since.

Her setting up a GoFundMe may help get the word out.
Don't listen to those offended by online "begging" or whining about how hard they had to wage-slave, or other causes are more "deserving".
But she will appear more independent if it isn't her Dad doing the asking.

I agree with John - and she might have more success with a partially funded purchase, with people like me who would gladly throw a couple bucks her way to see someone as passionate a little sailing as her out on the water.
And get a copy of “First you have to Row a Little Boat” as well.
Cheers,
Greg

But GFM may also attract a full-boat donor, tgen the cash collected becomes the upfit/fixit fund.
Those idjits wrecked their boat in FL last year got lucky. . .

Octopus:
Given the affection that shines through your post, would it be possible for Da to shake loose with the requisite number of quid, perhaps against an understanding that the amount is to be debited against the inevitable inheritance?
There are "young woman's boats" just waiting to be "taken on" in every marina and yard on these, Canadian, shores. I'm sure it's the same in the UK

Ownership is a good path to less money. Why not crew? “Pride of ownership” can be a real trap.

Nothing would give Da greater pleasure and to a certain extent he is happy to oblige, but alas with five other children to consider, all either at university or about to go, he is sadly limited in his capacity to do so.

Re: Any boat anywhere that needs to be loved and used
Why can’t she do like the rest of the world. Find a boat she likes and can afford, make an offer contingent on obtaining financing and apply her savings to the down payment. Move on board, get a job and make improvements/ repairs as needed, sail on weekends etc. until she ( the boat and her) are ready to go. There are plenty of stories of young sailors doing that exact same thing.

Or put in a lot of energy into finding a well-off owner who doesn't mind donating her boat.
Deposit, credit rating, getting into debt, working full-time, postponing getting out there sailing, what kind of boomer values are you trying to inculcate, completely irrelevant to today's youth? 8-)

Re: Any boat anywhere that needs to be loved and used
Octopus this sounds like another one of those look how dads embarrased me again mum stories?
Why not sell your Lagoon buy and buy two yachts? You halve your outgoings and your daughter gets a yacht as well?
Don’t worry about your other four kids, there is always a favourite child in every family?
Cheers

Sounds like it can be quickly settled when Susie's parents give her the support they say Susie already has.
They can give Susie their Lagoon 42 and Susie will probably let them visit her in exotic places when they want to see her.
