Tarka is for sale here on the forums, the boat well documented in a great YouTube channel, for $10k I think. Perfect for a single hand and quite capable.

This is a valid point.
I did this at 21 years old while in college. I worked over the summers and breaks and saved up for my first boat.

Re: Any boat anywhere that needs to be loved and used
As mentioned earlier, there are plenty of boat yards all around the UK with a “death row” of abandoned boats. Start with them, see if you can take a boat off their hands for cheap, then kiddo can really get to know the boat by refitting it and getting it sailing. Sure it’ll take a bit longer but we are approaching another UK winter / refit season, which is the perfect time to be pestering boat yards as well!

That's exactly what she is doing. As I said, she's not looking for a free boat.

True... its a nice boat.. but be honest would you buy your first boat 7000nm from home where everythings expensive and has to be shipped in... besides being a young English woman in a Spanish speaking country thats not famous for safety.
Not to mention going East is a hard trip for a solo novice and West is expensive with the Canal.
Something in W Europe or the Med is more realistic.

Why buy a home if you can lodge with friends, family, or a car if you can hitch hike.
Surely some of the reasons are obvious. Like being able to do things on your own schedule, making decisions that suit you and fit around your life, actually having somewhere to live (if she's going to be a liveaboard). The list goes on.

Re: Any boat anywhere that needs to be loved and used
If she can stretch to €10K theres plenty of potential liveaboards around in the 8 to 9metre range, Comar Meteors 2, one in Cherbourg the other in Tuscany, a lot of Centaurs, a few Sadler 26's, Nicholsons etc.
Whoever suggested the Corribee obviously has never been on one.. may be great for getting a leg up on the fame ladder but thats about all.

That was me. I have. It was very tippy, but then we are 3 x Susi's age.
If the finance/work/live on board is an option then something like this for £7000 with a bit of an adventure bringing her home via the canals during the autumn thrown in. Would be an interesting challenge. Take a couple of siblings along too as crew and look back in 30 years time on the adventure
If not there is a Nic 30 and a couple of UK based Westerly Renowns for similar money on Appollo Duck.

Same boat, huge difference in price:

I bought one about 6years ago in Harwich and sailed her down to Portugal.. good little voyager that I had to paddle the last 3nm into Baiona.. wind died..
But thats it.. its a traveller not a live aboard.
Theres a Twister in Greece for €9K..

Re: Any boat anywhere that needs to be loved and used
Not certain where you live but I looked at a 24 foot Allegra with a trailer. The asking price was $24,000. I went over 2,000 miles to look at the boat. It was a fresh water boat with a almost new (2015) trailer. Just needed some updates. I decided to pass because I thought it was too much work for me. Within a week he called me and offered the boat and trailer for $12,500. By that time I had reallocated the money but it was a dramatic reduction that would have been a great deal for a young sailer with a lot of energy. The deals are out there if you are dealing directly with the owner.

Re: Any boat anywhere that needs to be loved and used
Hm...Gentlemen: This has not been stated explicitly, but if we may assume that Susan lives, so far, with her parents, then those of you who are making specific suggestions should probably familiarize yourselves with the lie of the land. Arran ain't Bainbridge Island and it ain't New England. Nor is it the Solent.
Both the acquisition "problem" and the outfitting and maintenance "problem" are much more difficult if your domicile is Arran than it is if you live in, say, Gloucester, MA. or Romsey, Hants. As for boats on trailers - well, fine. But there ain't many vehicooles around Arran sufficiently heavy to tow a boat safely. And before committing to the purchase of a boat on a trailer, there might be wisdom in verifying that the cardeck on the Ardrossan-Brodic ferry has the clearance to take a boat on a trailer.
But beyond all that, I, for one, would not be keen on having a young daughter, a novice sailor, sculling around the Firth of Clyde and the Irish Sea, let alone the Hebrides, in anything smaller than 28 or 30 feet.
