38 foot junk rig schooner

Encore is a full keeled 38 foot Junk Rigged Schooner built to Samson C-Quence lines. Built in 1975 of ferrocement in Canada, she is extremely well faired and is often mistaken for fiberglass. I needle scaled her down to bare cement and applied layers of West System epoxy with fillers and coated the bottom with Coppercoat five years ago. This coating is proven to last over 20 years and hers is in excellent condition. I singlehanded down to Cuba from Lake Pepin and then returned via the North Atlantic and the Erie Canal and the Great Lakes to Silver Bay Minnesota four years ago on a 10 month trip. She is very well found and her 13 ton displacement makes her comfortable in moderate seas. She has a double bed and two quarter berths 6 1/2 feet long and over 6 1/2 foot headroom throughout. Beam is 11ft 2 and she draws six feet. Powered by a Perkins 4-108 with a Velvet Drive transmission, she burns about 3/4 gallons an hour to push her to nearly hull speed of six MPH. She is in very good condition and I wouldn’t hesitate going to sea with her again. At 80 my mind says go for it but my body says maybe it wouldn’t be wise, even though with the junk rig she is an easy sailor.
