36-ft C&L Marine by Doug Peterson

Looking for a capable cruising boat that fits in a budget? Doug Peterson designed this boat to cross oceans and C&L Marine built her stouter than a brick youknowwhat in 1979. This would make an outstanding platform on which to build your round-the-world cruiser, or head to Baja in classic style and comfort right away.

Here are a few things that make it ideal for bluewater cruising:

* Heavy hand-laid fiberglass construction
* Encapsulated keel - no keel bolts to worry about
* LaFiell keel-stepped mast
* Skeg-hung rudder
* Cast bronze portlights

We bought this boat a year ago with the thought of fixing her up and doing some SoCal cruising. We've got it all fixed up, but our plans have changed. Our loss is your gain! Here are just a handful of the major gear/upgrades:

* Completely rebuilt 35-hp Volvo diesel inboard engine and transmission
* Fresh bottom paint and zincs last week
* Brand new interior upholstery and pillows
* Rudder bearings repacked
* Autopilot
* All-new thru-hulls & ball valves (except two cockpit drains, which were in good shape)
* Cole solid fuel heater for year-round cruising
* US-built bronze windlass w/three anchors
* Mast and boom painted, new in-mast electrical wire, new running rigging, new nav lights
* Standing rigging built in early 2000s, but was only installed on the boat last week
* Two new deep-cycle marine batteries, digital monitoring, main circuit fuse, new wiring
* Two new 55-watt solar panels w/regulator
*1000-watt inverter
* Most interior light bulbs changed to LED
* New electrical bilge pump w/float switch, manual bilge pump rebuilt
* New electric head
* New Standard Horizon VHF w/new antenna and wire
* One main w/two reef points in v.g. condition, one 125% genoa in v.g. condition, one small heavy weather jib is older but appears to have seen little use
* Four-burner propane stove/oven, ice box, pressure water
* Tons of storage and tankage for long-distance cruising

Over the last year, every system has been cleaned, renewed or repaired. There are always a few items on the to-do list, but this boat is ready to go out to Santa Cruz today. With the quick addition of some gear, she could head to Mexico or beyond next month.

My wife wrote an article about the refit we did on this boat,and it just came out in Cruising World. Here is a link.

Also we have lowered the price to 25k.

Nice refit, nice article.
Really, $25k now? What a deal! I'll pass it on to some looking in that price range.
