36-37 for sailing caribbean under 35k

Hey guys,

I have been looking researching extensively on all makes and models of boats/builds etc. I am looking for something in the 36-37 range (or smaller if it has everything I need) for me and my other half to live board, with the occasional guest couple and sail to the Caribbean. I have looked and been aboard a whole lot of boats lately and just haven't found "the one" that calls to me. I've looked at hunter Cherubini 37s, pearson 365, 367, beneteau 38, islander 36, etc etc. My needs right now are a decent galley, at the very least an aft quarter birth for one guest (although not a necessity), but overall condition being good. Engine, standing rigging etc replaced within the last 10 years or so. Mainly I am trying to purchase something that will not need double the price of the boat immediately. I have looked at boats in the 40+k range but feel like I am getting a bit over my head monetarily, I'd rather get a good deal and use the extra money to upgrade equipment.

Let me know if anyone has anything available to look at! Thanks.

And I will also add if it is a decent boat, i.e. "bluewater" I will not mind spending more. For example I came across an equipped southern cross that I would fork over the bucks for, as I would probably have it for a very, very long time other than just the Caribbean. Thanks!

Maybe a Morgan 38x. What did you not like about the boats you mentioned? They all sound like good possibilities to me.

No problems, so to speak, with the boats I have mentioned. Just throwing it out there if anybody has any for sale or any that you know of. I am REALLY loving the pearson 367 and 365. Isn't the 36-2 the centerboard model? The accommodations of these are by far my ladies favorite.

Have you seen this westerly 33:

It looks like a well outfitted boat, very capable, with a motivated seller. Unfortunate circumstances have made the price much lower than market. Worth a look, IMHO.

Bought my Pearson 365 last spring. Very happy with it and my boat is probably rougher than you'll get for 40k. Accommodations for a second couple is there, but tight (fish and guests- 3 days), perfect! Separate shower stall is fantastic and I'm 6'3". That was a critical feature for my sweetie. Generous tankage, engine room isn't.

No reservations about sailing the Caribbean with it.

I've blogged a little about it at aboyagirlandaboat.blogspot.com.

Good luck.

Hi! In July 2014, I almost bought a C&C 38 in Washington NC but when I survey the boat I discovered that it wasn't as good as I tought. I canceled my offer & surf the web overnight to discover an 1988 Ericson 34 in excellent shape for 33K... on lake Michigan. In 1980 I had purchased a 33' in Chicago & sailed it to the West Indies. This time I sailed it from Manistee Michigan to NY/NY via the Erie Canal alone 'till Detroit then with my son. I sailed it alone again from NY to Beaufort NC & Sint Maarten. All this to say, Sundance is my 5th sailboat & I don't regret a second to have chosen a smaller offshore sailboat than a bigger no so good ! I added a second hand Hydrovane self steering gear for $2000 & Sundance was offshore ready ! It has a 3 cabin layout with the head on starboard at the foot of the companionway. It's perfect for a couple with the occasional friends for a week or two. Good luck

I have a pearson365 ketch in your price range. Currently cruising/living aboard in the bahamas. Good engine, rigging, anchors, galley. Brand new running rigging.

She is a good seaworthy boat as is that will take you around the world if you like.

You can email me at sailingkapala@gmail.com if you are interested.
