No one has mentioned the Fantasia35 yet as a potential candidate for the GGR. The only possible flaw as far as fulfilling the specs is that it has a cutaway forefoot keel. They’re heavily built and, therefore, very seakindly but slow.

By any chance do you have the original plans of the boat? I reached out to Bob Perry and he says he did not design the boat but the length on deck is 35.9 and it's LOA with bowsprit is 42.

I need a confirmation on this from the original plans.

PS: I've never sent and received so many emails in my life and looked at so many boats. I'm enjoying the experience. Other competitors are hating it. problem of plenty is a good problem to have.

Totally agree Benz.

William Atkin, the finest designer ever to sit at a drafting board in MHO. The Cape George Cutter, wish we could afford a newer one. We are sailing a "Tally Ho Major", (Cape George Cutter), which was built from Atkin plans back in 1977, before she was a production boat, by the original owner and several shipwrights, in Minn., before designers extensively used computers. We bought her in 2005, from that original owner. Could not ask for a better boat, by a better designer.

Have you looked into/on Kijiji / Ontario recently?

jeepers, hamburking, gauravshinde

1974 Douglas 32 for $14,500 in Ontario
https://www.kijiji.ca/v-sailboat/mis...ationFlag=true

'Barn Find' hull and deck are in almost new condition. Brewer design (Whitby 42).
The narrow 9.5 foot beam makes this an easy boat to push through waves, and the fleet has several that have crossed Pacific and Atlantic oceans.
Specs: https://sites.google.com/site/dougla...specifications

Hey,

Someone named Maria Madocks reached out to me about her Aries 32. If you see this please email again. I am not able to reply to your email since it has some weird outlook name and my replies fail to go out.

Thanks a lot.

Re: 32-36 ft full keel boat for Golden Globe Race

I'm curious about the displacement rule - the minimum is 6200 kg I think - but the Nicholson 32 is lighter than that and is clearly on the approved list (the latest 2 models of the marque). If the Nich 32 is allowed then they should allow the Sea Sprite 34, the CD 33, and others.

Nich 32 Mk X1 Disp: 5534 kg
Sea Sp 34 Disp: 5806 kg
CD 33 Disp: 6033 kg

from the GG site: "A minimum design displacement is 6,200kg."

I have wondered a lot about this myself. There are some boats which are borderline but were allowed for being known as a bluewater boat. I am also assuming that in the first edition it was probably allowed because of the entrants already had one of these.

Just an update for everyone the 2 boats I have finally shortlisted are
CG36
Baba 35

Going to check them out in the coming weeks and make a final decision soon.

Re: 32-36 ft full keel boat for Golden Globe Race

The CG36 is a fantastic choice so long as the deck construction is cool with the rules. I can't imagine it making a difference, especially considering all the profound deck changes entrants make to their boats (altering ports, massive custom dodgers, waterproof doors, etc etc) but it's something to think about.

Re: 32-36 ft full keel boat for Golden Globe Race

The deck will have to be rebuilt at the original facility is the rule. I cannot do a DIY job to make it work and there can be no structural alterations. The good part about that is that there will be a new deck and all the custom elements can be incorporated and it will be made by the factory so that is a plus. I am surely planning watertight bulkheads and a permanent dodger with a few more alterations for the boat I purchase but they will need to be approved by the RO.

The forefoot is not cutaway on mine which is a MK II, not sure if it still qualifies as the rudder is skeg hung.

(not my boat but a MK II)

I'm in Eastern Ontario with a F35 project boat in case it does qualify and the OP is interested.

this is hardly a recommendation for a racing boat, even for a race such as this!
