32-35ft boat in Rio Dulce

Hi all,

I'm looking to buy 32-35ft long distance cruiser in Rio Dulce Guatemala. Budget for the boat is... let's say around 25K usd, flexible. Of course I would like something in good condition and if already setup for singlehanding, that would be a nice plus.

I'm currently in Guatemala (Antigua) and will arrive to Rio Dulce next week. I'm in contact with a broker there, but thought it wouldn't hurt to spread the word a little bit. So if you're in Rio Dulce and thinking about selling your boat or know someone who does, please let me know.

Thanks!

There are several cheap boats in your price range and below in the Rio,,, beware that many have sat unloved or untouched in a very hot, rainy, nasty, termite rich environment.
I looked at 4 CSY 44s and one smaller baba there recently and all had terrible termite issues.

Interesting coincidence. I was looking at a boat there last week. Emailed the broker at Seakist but never heard back.

But how do you check for termites? Not an issue I have thought about.

Thanks

Yes, termites can be an issue on the Rio. The physical sings are usually obvious: termite tunnels, termite droppings, wood damage in tunnel pattern...often just below surface of wood so the damaged area yeilds to gentle pressure.

Most obvious sign is droppings, tiny spa. Sized black or brown specks like no
Dark grains of sand , the size of a pin head if you open cabinets or look in corners etc and find Any it's a sure sign. Eggs lay dormant for years until the correct environment, humidity etc(the rio) is reached and they hatch.
