30ish ft shallow draft in Florida
We've looked at a few 33 O' Days and Irwins but want to see if there's anything else out there. I found most boats in this price range are not really listed on Yacht World and are going to be more of a word of mouth situation. Craigslist is mostly junkers. I am fine with somewhat of a project but don't want to deal with major issues deck rot, chainplates or mast steps.
Only considering boats in FL at this time as I don't have the extra money for shipping or the vacation time to sail her home. West Coast of Florida preferably.
Budget is than 20k. No BS cash buyers.

Re: 30ish ft shallow draft in Florida
I would start with sailboatlistings. Only their listings are not always updated timely but you can figure it out yourself as they have a clear listing date posted. And I would also still be actively monitoring c-list as it does come up with decent deals still. They just go very fast compared to either YW or sailboatlistings.
Is shallow for you 4' or less only or would you consider 5' draft? Is so I'd recommend checking out early 80s Mariner 36 (US/NH not the older 70s Taiwan brand). There are several in Florida and Georgia. Asking prices may be higher than your budget but most latest sales of this model were in high teens low $20Ks so I would not hesitate to come up with an offer in that range or less. Huge boat for such short money. Feels like a 38-39' inside and out.

a 30' sailboat for under 20K is a project by definition. they will usually have some sort of surprise like needing a fuel tank or standing rigging or sails or new engine. some of the older boats don't have much in the way of holding tanks or batteries or electronics or interior space

Might be a good idea for you to keep checking. Yachtworld has a nice Catalina 34 in Ft Myers for 19k. I've also had luck with brokers. Though that is toward the bottom of their interest.

So I don't want to deal with are damage from hard groundings, large areas of rotten deck and major structural/keel/rudder/chain plate issues.
I've looked at probably 10 boats so far but was posting this in case anyone has a dock neighbor or anything like that not on YW or sailboat listings.
I'm also not in any hurry.

Re: 30ish ft shallow draft in Florida
I have a 30' Dufour Arpege, 1975, that I have just started thinking about selling. It is in St Marks, FL (just south of Tallahassee. Did the bottom 1 year ago with Interprotect and antifoul. This is not a project boat. I am working on a couple of minor electrical problems at the moment, but boat is good to go. Also has a Navik self steering gear on the stern, but haven't tested it yet. I do have a lot of pictures of the boat. Boat is in good condition and is considered a blue water boat, also. Beam is 10', draft is 4'5". Would consider selling for around $12,000. Only reason I started thinking of selling, thinking of a bit larger boat. Also, for the last year the boat has been 7 miles up the St Marks river, so basically fresh water. No barnacles up here. Engine is a MD6a diesel, that has always started and run well, with no issues.

If you are near Daytona Beach, I would like to show you my Nonsuch 30, It has some minor damage from Hurricane Mathew, rub rail, and scuffs, needs a total paint job. Please let me know if you would like to look at her.

Re: 30ish ft shallow draft in Florida
check out sailboats for sale florida. catalina and older morgans have drop centerboards. they seem to run $9000- 16000, depending on condition. engines are a large expense, bottom job and blisters too, sails , rigging not so bad. might want a good survey, haulout to inspect bottom and centerboard. All depends on how much work you can do.

Re: 30ish ft shallow draft in Florida
We have an S2 9.2A that is awesome, got it in 2013, love it but have not used it as much as we should... I have upgraded the electronics a bit and the autopilot, we had the furling jib proteca recovered and cut down a bit and mainsail cover redone in sunflower yellow. I replumbed the head when we first got her and have replaced the exhaust mixing elbow. She has a keel depth of 4'2" and is 29'11" in length, I replaced the zinc on the shaft a couple months ago and have replaced both batteries. I could consider parting with her for anything over 15K... nothing less. Located in water in Pensacola at the Bayou Grande NAS MWR Marina... if she does get a new home, I may keep our Catalina 22'... otherwise... that is for sail for the first $3500.00 that comes our way... with trailer.

Re: 30ish ft shallow draft in Florida
If you are willing to drive to Miami, I have a 1979 CAL39MKII shallow draft model in very good conition for $20,000. This is a solid boat, solid deck, solid hull, very good standing rigging. Sails have another 5 years, engine runs great.
What is needed:
- replace the packing in the stuffing box
- replace the bearings in the roller furller
- minor wood work in one closet
- bottom paint
I know I should not care what a buyer does with my boat, but I have an offer from a fellow boater so he can use my mast and rigging and engine and transmission for his sailboat, then he would sell the boat in parts. I desperately want a real sailor to enjoy this boat as much as I did in these last 13 years.
Here is in craiglist Miami
