It took me 8 weeks to sail 800 Nmiles home,
I started out with a helper, Sailor, That was going to sail my boat for me,
By the time he arrived it was almost dark,
Im not sure if he has travelled at night on the open Ocean, Or in bad
weather,
Im going any way,
We motored across the Port Stephens bay towards the opening to the Ocean,
He is sitting on the side of the boat saying
head for the Cardinal Marker,
Nope, I am in the channel and heading for the channel marker, The same way I came in, Following my GPS track,
See the two pretty blue lights in front, when they are together, I am in the channel, Safely,
I had a heavy
current running sideways and at 6 knots I am moving out of the channel sideways,
On his
motor boat at 30 or 40 knots, It dont make a difference,
But I am scraping the hulls in the shallow
water next to the channel,
Any way, I get it back in the channel,, I go straight then turn to the left and aim it for the entrance, With a right hand turn, Its now very dark,
It got a bit hairy coming out the channel, There is 3 metre waves coming in and the tide running out, I cant see very well,
Ive got plenty of
depth as I am still bang in the middle of the channel, I am running on the GPS track,
I think my sailor friend is going green, I dont think he is handling this too well,
We hit the ocean and its about 4 metres high,
My man is crapping himself over the stern, On the transom steps, Literally,
Then he goes forward to the Bow and he is chucking his guts over the Bow,
I cant see him laying down on the bow, So I gave him my chest harness and said to put it on and clip it to the front stay,
If you go over, I cant see you going and I would never find you in this
weather, and darkness,
He got upset at my demanding he put my harness on and clip it on,
If you dont, You will sit in the
salon where I can see you, Vomit in the bucket,
Under threat of being knocked out and tied up in the
salon, He agreed to clip himself to the front stay on the bow where he continued to throw up,
I had already experienced a
MOB and I wasnt going to tolerate another one on my boat thru stupidity, ,
If he went over, He was dead, By this time I was very angry and he knew it,
Hours later when he recovered,
We were talking in the salon, He had never gone out in bad weather on his big Speed boat,
The waves had settled a bit by this time, and the
autopilot was handling the waves with out dropping out,
So I got him to take a watch while i got some sleep,
By this time, I realised I could drive the boat with out help, Even injured like I was,
We pulled up at Bundeena Wharfe where I took piccys of the wharfe where I fell over, The went to a free
Mooring ball to tie up,
Its ten feet of
rope you grab the end of and drop it on the
windlass, Easy peasy,
He broke the end off the pick up stick, Duhhh, I dont know what he was doing,
He was yelling come into the
wind, Hahaha There was no
wind and no tide, and no waves,
I went down to the Bow to see what was happening, Wheres the
mooring ball, Its under the boat, Stationary, Duhhh.
I put it in
gear and drive the boat forwards a bit,Turned off the
motor, Walked down the transom steps, Caught the ball with my foot, dragged it across till I had it in my hand,
Then walked down the side of the boat and put the
rope on the
windlass,
Tied it off securely, we were moored, The another big boat came up and I said to him, Watch what they do,
The other boat came up to the ball, He reached out with the pick up stick and caught the rope and dropped it on the windlass,
I dont think my man had ever seen that done, So very simple,
He says to me, Can you put me on the beach and I will walk to the town and get a bus home, Dont be stupid, I have to get
fuel at Cronulla, I will drop you off at the
fuel depot and the train is about 300 metres from the fuel depot,
Do I have anything to clean the Hulls, Yep, So I gave him the scarpers, and he went into the
water and scraped the hulls,
I was buggared by this time and had a sleep while he scraped the hulls,
Then I offered him some cash for his efforts, But he was happy only taking one hundred dollars,
Then we motored up to the fuel
dock at Cronulla and we said goodbye,
He caught the train and went home,
I then decided I didnt need help to sail home if I took it carefully, Waiting for good weather going my way, All down wind, Hahahaha and small waves,
I will add more tomorrow, Im going to
bed,
Cheers Brian,
