For Sale: 2002 PDQ 36 #91 "Belamies"

Hello cruisers,

This is a rare opportunity on a very well-kept 2002 PDQ 36 Capella.

Flying along at 8 knots as I type this, my coffee cup hasn’t moved from where I put it down. Hard to say this, but she’s for sale. Largely for tax reasons, but also to switch to a trailerable weekender.

The boat is exceptionally well-built, solid fibreglass hulls and cored deck. Propulsion is two 9.9 outboards which are enough to push her at 6 knots through any sea you would want to be in, and some you don’t. Every PDQ has a different port aft compartment. Ours is a U shaped pantry, made with better than original workmanship, that converts to a double bunk. I’ve been sleeping in it the past week.

This vessel is in charter at Canadian Yacht Charters in Gore Bay, on the north channel of Lake Huron. Returns a $5-7k profit every year. They want to keep the boat in the program. This an ideal situation for the new owner who wants to learn the boat while receiving income while taking in the glories of Georgian Bay.

Absent a deal in the coming weeks I will commit her to charter for next year.

Equipment wise she has been kept up to date to meet the needs of the charter business where, at the end of the road where the charter co is, reliability is paramount. Motors, navigation and entertainment electronics have been renewed. The fridge and windlass will be done in spring. The boat has an on-demand hot water heater that works quite well for dishes or a shower.

Asking 145k American or 185k Canadian. Canadians will have to pay 13% tax. For people in northern Michigan, we are very close by and the North Channel is familiar to many US boaters.

Pretty... but says it's a long-term cruiser, is it really just 50 gallons FW? Does she have a watermaker?

Does one need more? I think the Hiscocks crossed oceans with 30 gallons but ideas and opinions have changed.

Embarrassing I got that wrong. Freshwater tank is 85 gal.

No water maker, plenty of room where there was a second air conditioner.

In the north channel you can take water from mid lake.

PDQ makes solid boats. I used to have one, and if I was still cruising I would absolutely still have it (moved down to sportier boat). Easy to work on, good quality throughout. If I was looking, I'd be looking at this. Probably no the cheapest on the market, but it sounds like a strong value.

Price dropped to USD 135K. Will consider a small reduction for boat's fridge compressor which failed after 20 years. Suggest new cold plate to go with. Charter company willing to install.

Ohhhh! I wish I had seen this thread a little earlier. I just bought a PDQ 32 but already thinking about a 36! Tempting! Still have a MacGregor 26X that I’ll be posting for sale soon if you’re interested in a trailerable weekender.

FlyingHippie, I also have a PDQ, and was wondering if your windshields are crazed or do they have a lot of cracking? I'm trying to figure out how to replace these windshields. We are located in Northeast Florida. How are your windshields? Ours is a 2003 PDQ 36 Capella.

The previous owner replaced all the windows but the hatches are pretty crazed. I think he just did a direct replacement with tinted plexiglass and then redid the caulking. Probably used the old ones as a template.
