2002 Leopard Catamaran in the Florida Keys

Outlander
2002 Robertson and Caine Leopard 42 catamaran

We have to sell our wonderful catamaran, Outlander. We have been “living the dream” but the first mate wants to return to land. We are only in our third year owning Outlander and it has proved to be a comfortable place to live and it actually sails quite well (much better than expected).

Outlander is easy to board from a dock or dinghy and it is easy to move around from the cockpit to the salon and four cabins. You will find, like we did, that most catamarans of this vintage are not as well designed. Climbing over seats in the cockpit is very common on other models. Access and comfort moving around the vessel was a priority for us when we selected a Leopard 42. The Leopard 42 design has significantly influenced the new catamaran designs.

Outlander’s equipment has been renewed during the last four years as a partial refit. Most catamarans of this vintage are also due for a refit. The previous owner and I have done the expensive parts of the refit on Outlander saving new owners time and money. There are a few things that could still be addressed in a full refit like shower drain pump replacement, hatch glazing replacement, one new fuel gauge is not working properly sometimes, and the primary anchor chain is not new but still working fine. Same with the engines, they do not seem to need anything but continued regular maintenance. They have operated just like NEW engines for us.

Outlander features and equipment
-4 comfortable queen mattresses in each of the four spacious cabins,
-4 new heads in 2018 featuring electric large bowl heads (toilets) and showers.
-2 original Yanmar 39 hp engines, they start and run like new, even with over 3000 hours on them. The engines have been maintained properly and should continue to be reliable for a couple more decades with proper care.
-Outlander has propeller shaft drives rather than the more common sail drive in catamarans. Shaft drive is conventional and seen on almost all inboard powered vessels. While sail drive allows designers to move engines further aft, sail drives require more maintenance and are generally more exposed to damage.

New equipment:
New 2018 propeller shaft cutlass bearings and engine motor mounts,
New 2017 Maxprops ($2500 each),
New 2018 both rudders professionally rebuilt,

Outlander is US Coast Guard documented and ready to go most anywhere.

Nicki and Jason Wynn maintain a high quality YouTube video blog as they have been sailing their Leopard 43, Curiosity, around the world for five years (their 43 foot “Owners version” is the same as Outlander’s “Charter version” with just the lowest transom step extended an additional foot and it has three cabins instead of Outlander’s four).

Mods, please delete the for sale postings w/o price and location. What a waste of members' time to read through long descriptions only to find those two most important factors missing. Thank you.

Looks like the one in this thread was a flip in 2016. The ad is dated 2017. The site is notoriously frustrating with 5-10+ year old ads.

Re: 2002 Leopard Catamaran in the Florida Keys

ALL boats for sale sites suck!

yachtworld.com has it for $325K since probably 2020-04-03.

So it could be that the broker's deal ends in April and seller is taking off the commission and going fsbo.
Boat didn't sell at 325 w/broker for a year and might not sell for 300k fsbo as well, since it seems to be more appropriately priced at 275k counting all the addons.
Had (you) the seller posted the price all this speculations and probably fake news wouldn't flourish.

just saw it as well on craigslist for 300

Re: 2002 Leopard Catamaran in the Florida Keys

A few years back there was a 2004 Leopard 38 for sale in Boston for $215K. It sold for around $200K I believe, may be less. Was in good shape too. Could never undestand the idea of pricing the boat you want to sell to the price point it will not sell for months or years.

Sorry for the rant.

Re: 2002 Leopard Catamaran in the Florida Keys

Hi, All,

I profusely apologize the price, location, and dinghy details for Outlander were omitted from my posting. Then I had trouble getting back on the forum and I just changed my password so now it is working for me again.

Outlander is the 2002 L-42 for sale in the Florida Keys at this time.

We are asking $300,000 and that includes the AB 9 1/2 ft light RIB with fiberglass bottom. Great shape. Engine is a two stroke Yamaha 15 hp and it was the first outboard I ever bought new (in Antigua) and the dinghy is scary fast with one aboard. Usually starts first pull after you learn whether it needs a quick choke or not (already warmed up).

I am sorry for any inconvenience or frustration caused by my posting.
Ken

PS. Now I am having trouble getting this posted! I am just technologically challenged

Re: 2002 Leopard Catamaran in the Florida Keys

Grand Slam Yacht Sales agent at Catamaran Boatyard is continuing to give me grief. First it was a poor listing on Yachtworld, then the worst experience on my life in a boatyard, and now they won’t take the listing off yachtworld. I would NEVER give another dollar to catamaran boatyard in key largo run by an idiot named sam. Yard guys are great and apologized for their boss’s behavior. Avoid at all costs...I will sink before I ever spend anything there again.
