2001 Jim Brown Searunner 40 Trimaran

2001 Searunner 40 for sale

Build 1992 to 2000 and launched in 2001. Build in marine ply & west system epoxy this must be one of the newest Searunner 40's out there. She was originally build as 'Sergeant Lewis' (the old building website https://sergeantlewis.epsfh.com/) in Oregon and I bought her from the 2nd owner in 2013 in BC/Canada. I upgraded and coastal cruised her for 2 1/2 years in Canada before sailing her all the way down to Panama where she is now for sale due to a changed work situation.

Upgrades done over the last couple of years include:
- 2014 Building a hard dodger and soft top combo that can seal of the center cockpit completely for sailing in cold or wet weather while being able take out all windows for ventilation & sunshade in the tropics (see pictures)
- 2015 Stripping mast to bare wood to check condition and sealing it with 3 coats of west system + several layers of AWL Grip paint
- 2015 New active radar reflector including detection alarm (ECHOMAX X+S)
- 2015 Fitting new Cape Horn self steering to stern, engaging right to the rudder quadrant
- 2015 2 New anchors 1 x 85 lbs MANTUS M1 + 1x 70 lbs JAMBO
- 2016 New Standart Horizon VHF incl. GPS/DSC/AIS receiver/FOG Signal hailer
- 2017 New MPPT solar charge controller + 2 new 120 W panels
- 2018 New topside and side deck paint (incl. nonskid) applied by shipyard (2 part polyurethane)
- 2018 New Raymarine Evolution Autopilot incl. typ 2 linear drive at steering quadrant (very silent and low power consumption) , old Raymarine wheel pilot used before still wired in as a back up if needed
- 2019 New DOMETIC CFX 40W compressor fridge/freezer box
- 2019 New 40 m galvanized HT anchor chain (not yet been in the water)

Sail inventory:
Main and Genoa where the only 2 sails used by the previous owners. When I got the boat the other sails where still originally packed by the sail maker and never used. Headsails are all hank on with downhauls from the cockpit.
Main Sail in good condition (without tears or holes) but well used and I would replace it before an ocean crossing
Light wind 180 % Genoa (same as above)
Staysail (good condition and only in use since 2015)
Mule (as new condition only used for downwind sailing in 15+ kn since 2015) heavy cloth genoa for inner stay or as heavy weather genoa for outer stay
Flying jib (as new condition and only used a few times ) Used together with staysail on outer stay for upwind beating in heavy winds
Storm Jib (used once)
Spinnaker with sock (older but in perfect condition) not to big in order to sail it without the need for spinnaker poles.
A total of 7 Lewmar self tailing winches

Engine: Westerbeke 30b three 27hp (20 kw) with Hurth HBW 40 gearbox and new 2022 dripless shaft seal

Bunks: Currently sleeps 5 but can be 7 if another matress is bought.
-3 real queen sized bunks (2 fwd. of which one is without matress as it is used for storrage + 1 aft)
-1 Single (in aft cabin)

Galley:
-Double sink with foot pump for freshwater + saltwater.
-Although pressurized cold water available in galley and on deck.
-Seaward 3 burner propane stove with big oven.
-Fireboy gas detector and remote shut off.
-Propane locker outside with space for 3x 20 lb tanks giving independence for 9-14 month depending on usage

Heads: LAVAC marine toilet (replaced around 2016) with direkt overboard or seawage tank discharge, bow section under hatch designed as shower room with sump and manual pump, no shower installed as I used portable 12 v shower sets with a 20 ltr. canister to be used in shower room or cockpit

Cabin heat: 2x Sigmarine (now Dickinson) powerless diesel heaters in each cabin. Fwd. cabin one with a copper pipe around flue connected to 40 l tank for hot water.

Tanks: Freshwater 2x fiberglass with a total of 300 ltr. + 100 ltr in jerry cans
Fuel: Stainless tank 160 ltr + 60 ltr. in jerry cans
Sewage: Fiberglass tank abt. 80 ltr. with dockside discharge plumbing and overboard discharge

Navigation: 1 x Furuno GP32 WAAS GPS
1 x ECHOMA X-S active radar reflector with detection alarm
1 x Raymarine Evolution Autopilot (2018 with typ 2 linear drive at rudder quadrant)
1 x Autohelm wheel pilot (spare)
1 x Furuno B&W fish finder
1 x Sonar phone color fish finder module with WIFI box to display on Tabet or phone (works as in app ad on for navionics or independent)

Currently the mast is down for inspection and while it's down probably a topcoat repaint will be done.

Further details and more pictures will follow once I am back on the boat end of January 2022.

JD Lange:
To send a PM, first go to CP, then click on "Send new message".
At this point a writing box will appear, and you can send a personal message.

Welcome aboard CF.

Re: 2001 Jim Brown Searunner 40 Trimaran

Have been trying to PM you but I am not very adept at fiddling with how this site works.
Anyway, want to discuss going to look at your trimaran and giving it a new home. I’m on an icebreaker in Antarctica but will be back in the states end of March and can make the trip then.
If you can figure out how the PM thing works just ping me and let’s talk.
Thanks
G.

Re: 2001 Jim Brown Searunner 40 Trimaran

Gliderflyer,

sent you a PM, if you have the default configuration you should get an e-mail with that. To send a PM you click on the user's name in any of their posts and select "Send Private Message to...." If Tri Del Sur is still active then hopefully they will get an e-mail notice about the PM.

There's a chance you have to have a certain number of posts before you can send a PM, 5 or 10, I just don't recall. If you don't see the option when clicking on the username participate in a few discussions until you get enough posts to be allowed to PM.

Good luck, she's a wonderful looking boat. And welcome to CF.

There's what I believe to be a pretty decent Searunner 40 in Vanuatu. It seems out of the way most folks, but maybe not so much if that's where a person wants to sail.
This boat is advertised in the Searunner user/owner group on Facebook

My son brought this thread to our (wife and I) attention. I built this boat. Very pleased to see her on the water and sailing.
