Good luck with your sale, We're taking ours [a sistership] off the market and have decided to do The Bahamas again next winter once all this mess hopefully blows over.
It was The Yacht Rigger.... In St Pete, FL. Theyre awesome people.

If someone was to want to look at the boat or buy it, is there a way to get there, for an American?

Without getting into anything too personal or painful, any lessons learned and/or things to consider that would be useful to those of us thinking (dreaming) about refitting and embarking on a long cruise? Interested in the long or short story!

You indicated a 5 gallon holding tank
with “ No deck pump out”
Is this a typo?
I have been on a few boats with this set up and
have found it to be a big mistake.
Can really turn into a nightmare if for
whatever reason they get plugged.
Cheers

Its really not an issue when you have a macerator at the toilet exit point.

Originally this boat was not designed to have a holding tank. To make it legal in the states I did it the cheapest way possible. Not cheap as in a crap job or parts but cheap as in the simplest design with a small tank and no diverter valves to break. This is because we planned to leave the states when the refit was complete.

We replaced the toilet with an electric on the port side. As it leaves the macerator it goes into a 5 gal tank. From there it gravity drains to the thru hull where there is a shut off valve. The tank is also vented. This is the most simplistic design with nothing to fail but the toilet and the thruhull valve. Our boat is utilitarian, not fancy.

If you wanted to keep her in the US it would be very easy to add a deck thruhull fitting as the tank is just below the top side. There is also room to add a much larger tank.

Lessons learned?

Don't ever set yourself to a schedule. You go when the weather is great. It will obviously have a direct effect on your quality of life. Dont even think about trying to have friends meet you in certain places unless you plan on being there for the whole season. Otherwise you'll find out what your boat is truly made of. 😜

Second thing would be... You could fully restore your boat to show room quality before untying the lines and the day you start sailing, she will start breaking. Its just a part of the game. The more you sail, the more she'll need your unconditional love and attention. It's just a fact.

Take your time. Enjoy the scenery. Plan to be in places for weeks, not days (unless you're cutting a trip up into shorter day hops of course)

Lastly, the second you realize and accept that as the captain you will never drop the anchor in the correct spot (according to your first mate) .... You'll be good! 😂
