35 FOOT CLASSIC SAILBOAT
A CARL ALBERG BEAUTY

Querida is a uniquely upgraded Alberg-35 sloop. If you want a boat that will make your heart sing as you look back at her from your dinghy this is it. Alberg is known for his lovely safe and strong CCA designs. The current owner, an artist and marine craftsman, has owned the boat for 25 years. (He was part of the crew that built Doug Peterson’s NY 40 for the NYYC in the ‘70’s). With that experience and many custom adaptations Querida is a comfortable, safe and eye-catching offshore sailboat with the touches an artist’s hand has brought forth. The current owner and first mate have cruised coastal California and northern Mexico and have lovingly refit and added features over the years. Below is a “Detailed Equipment List” for Querida.

The hard dodger is actually a custom dinghy built from strong surfboard fiber-glass with a removable transom. It’s light for the size, rows well and can handle up to a 4hp light outboard.

A bowsprit/anchor roller was custom built to move the headstay and furler forward 18 inches. With the center of effort moved forward the helm is easily balanced. A bobstay and two whisker stays carry that load. With the current sails, beam reaching in 10-15 kts, making 7-8 kts is not uncommon. In addition, she comfortably handled all weather conditions encountered over the last 25 years.

Querida has been upgraded with custom heavy wall stanchions internally reinforced with 316L stainless pipe, spaced at 5 feet. Adding a heavy wall bow pulpit and stern rail maintains the secure double lifeline height at 29” while providing extra safety and comfort.
The 8’ radar pole is 1 1⁄2” stainless steel and the boom gallows is stainless tubing and laminated Ipe hardwood.

The stock Alberg deadlights were removed, cabin-sides glassed, painted, new openings cut and New Found Metals opening portlights were installed. This was a wonderful addition in adding light and getting air belowdecks.

The large companionway area aft of the mast as well as the forward hatch provide good ventilation. There is plenty of light in the V-berth and head.

The Monitor windvane is upgraded and works very well with the tiller’s eyebolt and jam-cleats making course adjustments easy and efficient. While sitting on the stern-rail seat the vane’s small control wheel and line can be moved with one hand while sipping a glass of wine with the other! The Simrad TP-30 tillerpilot can take over steering in case of a dead calm and the reliable Westerbeke engine has less than 50 hours since rebuild.

There are many beautiful and functional upgrades below decks. The already strong hull and deck were further stiffened by adding strong double birds-eye maple beams bolted tight against the overhead along with Tigerwood uprights on the bulkheads.

A Japanese-style tub with a sit-down shower sits directly across from the “Airhead” composting toilet with effective powered exhaust through the port dorade vent. Custom crafted hardwood rails, fiddles and shelves are found everywhere you look.

The forward V-berth has a comfortable mattress and convenient canvas slings on both sides along with plenty of storage cabinets.

Many top quality upgrades added to Querida make her a stand out upon arrival in any port! PM for other pics and details!

Querida is currently in LA Harbor.

I think you are suppose to include the asking price.

Why. It’s a silly forum requirement that should be dropped. If someone is serious about a vessel, then they know the investment the owners have in it...the market...the replacement cost...on and on.
Who would want to sell to someone who will not take good care of a boat. The final price the vessel sells for might be adjusted because the owners want her transferred into good hands. They are not selling an anchor.
The manatee crew’s currency is pizza and beer. Works for them.
Beautiful boat....
Happy trails to you.

Price is supposed to be included. Could be asking 100K or 1K, nice to know the actual listing price before wasting the sellers time.

My mistake. I haven’t posted much here and just forgot to list the price. I did not see a way to edit it. My asking price for Querida is $29,900.

Re: 1963 Pearson Alberg 35

That is a good price for that boat. I would imagine the people who are going to contact you will be a little more serious about buying knowing the price. You'll avoid some tire kickers or trying to wheel and deal you with pizza and beer...

I’ve seen this boat and I know the owner. This is truly a lovely boat, fully found, in excellent shape, with a good engine and sail inventory, and with exotic hardwood touches executed by a craftsman. For the right buyer this is a gem.

Thanks Celestial sailor. I meant to put the price with the post but forgot it. She’s been a joy to own and sail, and I hope a younger person or couple can enjoy what I’ve done to make some memories too.

Thanks Tayana42 for the nod to Querida. I will miss all of us meeting up at the island, wonderful dinners aboard, and slaloming back thru the anchored container ships.

Beautiful. If I didn't already have a boat I'd certainly be taking a look at yours! If anyone is interested in your boat then this ad might go with it:

Re: 1963 Pearson Alberg 35

I sail an Alberg 35 on the Chesapeake out of Baltimore. Pendragon is a 1965 boat. I'm certainly lusting after some of the upgrades on this one. These are great, solid boats. The new owner will be a fortunate sailor.
