It is a nice boat. Owners version had the couch but id recommend the optional cabinets. Set up for safe single handling. Interesting and usable new design. Would work great for short trips but would need a few more storage areas for a liveaboard. Space inside more similar to a 40 footer. But the price for value seems right given costs of. Likely competition.

We're also about 3-4 years out. I figure what is in the boat shows today is what we will be able to afford by then, so like you are looking at them when new so that we have a better idea when we finally get serious.

Re: New Leopard 44

I am a big fan of forward cockpits and having had one would not own a cat without one. However, this version does not have any sail or anchor handling capabilities and thus forsakes the greatest advantage of a forward cockpit. I like the trend though, and it may be just a matter of time before the charter boat manufacturers see the light and provide a proper working cockpit at the base of the mast like the designs by M&M, White and Oram.

There is a Leopard 44 in transit right now. The delivery guy is John Titterton. He is going thru Gibraltar right now. Heading to Turkey.www.sailblogs.com/member/deliveries/
Been an interesting trip so far. You might want to note what hes been thru from Capetown. I too have reservations about the forward cockpit. I have been in the Med and the Atlantic when they were UGLY!!! All that water up there does not turn me on.

FYI, I am pretty sure this design is by Morelli & Melvin.

Agree here. I walked around one in Lauderdale and the front netting is definitely smaller. The boat is nice but it'd be hard for me to not have the large tramp area.

The tramp is the party/hangout spot on our L40.

Pity. I couldn't see that blog. It says page not found. (Any ideas?) Has anyone seen a review on this model boat published somewhere? It could be an interesting read.

I am the first to admit that I have no experience sailing in a cat, but taking note of the various reservations regarding the front cockpit I have to ask: Would the designer/manufacturer surely not have taken rough seas into account? Surely they wouldn't design something that was likely to flood and cause major damage to the boat?

I was also under the impression that in general multihulls have less water over the bows onto the foredeck area than monohulls. Even in heavy seas. Is this accurate?

There are other cat designs with a front cockpit. What would make this one any different? Am I maybe missing something? Like I said. I have no experience with this so I may well be off base.

Re: New Leopard 44

Aha! Managed to find a review at this link: Leopard 44: New Cruising Catamaran, New Ideas

Hope the link works. I'm technologically challenged On the page there is a link under the picture of the Leopard 44. That takes you to the review, (hopefully).
