Summer charter destinations
Looking for additional ideas for a late June charter trip (our 20th anniversary). Considering the Med, but just did Greece last summer.
What would be your top three suggestions (viable charter availability an important criteria). Off the beaten track especially welcome.

Which part of Greece did you do?
How is Swedish Baltic coast (from Stockholm archipelago till Bothnia Bay) for a proposal?

PNW! PNW! PNW!
Well...it is off the beaten track.
Seriously though. If you are looking for something a little less civilized and a little more beautiful, Desolation Sound is hard to beat. And if you have the time going further north is even more beautiful and natural.

Re: PNW and further north. There are a few (a)charter company out of Valdez Alaska. It's a much shorter hop over to Glacier Bay than coming up the inside passage. Defineatly off the beaten track and beautiful but the swimming is something to be desired.

Re: Summer charter destinations
Hi RBK, I'm open to PNW. Concerns: low/no wind , weather, charter availability - depending on locale. Any ideas that address those points for last week of June??

Wind? It's a bit of a gamble. The wind is good in May/June and sometimes non-existent in July /August so the end of June is unpredictable. Still motoring isn't that bad :-)
Availability? Lots! You have a bunch of American companies based out of Bellingham etc and 4 more major ones in BC. The season really doesn't start until July and even so I never had a problem finding a boat last minute back when we were chartering. Hell, I think mine is still available in the last week of June
If you want to go to Desolation Sound, Cooper, Nanaimo Yacht Charters and Desolation Sound Yacht Charters are all relatively close.

Re: Summer charter destinations
I did have a long post but it got deleted and I hate posting from my phone so I'll summarize. April May tend to have nice weather with more stable southerlies. June tends to be great weather with no wind. July August tend to be mixed but with more rain and fog. Wind tends to be either 0 knts or above 30, not too much in the sweet spot. You can opt to make your way north powering and sailing when possible then take the outside back south in July/August when the winds tend to come out of the north. I tried looking up that charter I mentioned but can't find any bareboat, but quite a few catered charters. Also plenty of power boat charters out of Juneau (which is less than a days travel to Glacier Bay even at 6 knts) Sailing can be few and far between but amazing when it's good. Use every south wind to make you're way north and don't just stop at Juneau, go right up to Skagway then ride the Whitepass, it's something you won't regret.

Re: Summer charter destinations
Probably not out of the way enough but very uncrowded at the end of June/early July and with absolutely reliable wind - the Virgin Islands of course. Very easy to find anchorages where you will be the only boat (or occasionally one other shows up)
If solitude is the objective, however, then PNW is hard to beat depending on how long you have available.

Re: Summer charter destinations
Looking at desolation sound! Intriguing. San Juan islands seemed becalmed (med/high chance). Anyone comment on desolation sound for late June? Wind to sail? Weather?
