Pirates
We want to bareboat in the Abaco's but one of our crew is worried about threats. She has read about stolen dink's and needs some assurances. We will be flying privately to the islands, could we bring protection?

What type of pirate protection did you have in mind ...............cannons or cutlass?

Re: Pirates
Biz,
Welcome to CF.
You are going to get some really great responses here from experienced people.
Don't worry too much about the rented dink. Lock it on shore or lift it at night.
Have fun. I want to charter the Main Cat in the Abacos. Is that what you are going to do? Can I come with you? I can help in most aspects of the vacation!!

I would make sure to at minimum bring a couple of ar's and stainless shotguns. For protection on land a compact glock s&w 40 should be ok, but you might bring a 1911 just to be safe...

Re: Pirates
Ooops I thought this thread was about Pilates in the Abacos.
Now I was in Marsh Harbor, Abacos, for one month waiting for a weather window, and I can tell you if there was something so exciting to happen such as a dinghy theft the cruisers and the locals would build a grandstand to watch.

Especially if you cut loose on the boat bandits with an Uzi and killed the boat and the bad guys, all for a rented dinghy.

Re: Pirates
The downside to using condoms to protect your dink, although I have no idea why you'd want to call it that, is the lack of UV protection.

Re: Pirates
I don't charter, never have, doubt I ever will. But I'm guessing that any charter company would seriously frown on protection aboard their boat.

All joking aside the entire time I worked in operations for sunsail/moorings in the Abacos I never had a sink stolen... A couple dinks were lost and later recovered... I suspect a nipper and poor knot tying was the culprit... Not Somalian pirates...

Re: Pirates
I sorta think everybody should carry some handgranades !! Much smaller and easier to hide out !! And for sure that would kill a condom or a dink !!
