Hi Lat or low Lat

Bit rude to take over the Sunsets or Best Pictures thread so Eriks comment seems a perfect start for a thread.

at first it looks just like ice, ice, ice and more ice. A cold trip to get there and the heather must burn non-stop. But it is definetly worth it. I found it so much more rewarding than the Med or the Caribe... But who am I?
So Hi Latitude or low Latitude - where lies you happiest memories??

Nice to jump off the back of the boat into warm water but one thing I don´t miss about the tropics is the instant dark at about 6pm.

And don´t the boats you meet be sailed by crazier people the more you stray off the beaton track?

The farther off the beaten path you get, the more interesting the people get. If you stay with the herd, you find people who follow the herd mentality. Very predictable and not quite as interesting. Though interesting does have its limits.

Have done very little temperate weather sailing so can't comment on the joys of jumping into 50 degree water. Definitely prefer diving into 80 degree water the first thing in the morning as little 'wake me up' before coffee.

Well, that'd have to North of 60deg during high summer - South of 40 during Winter and somewhere in between 40 and 60 the rest of the year!

.. i just thought it was the perfect answer!

I know very little of "south of 40" in the winter months - but I know the rest holds true. That said, there were not that many evenings in the far north that you wouldn't be reaching for the cabin-heater button - no matter how clean and crisp the outside view may be!

Now we're on the Gulf i'm hoping to get into the more southerly climate during the winter months... it'll be a polar opposite to Winters in Norway!
