We will be headed south down the ICW and should arrive in Newport Va Harbor late afternoon. Does anyone know where a good, deep (9' +) anchorage with no bridge restriction just as we enter the Chesapeake mouth perhaps on the south side might be? We will have some weather issues prior to entering and will need a rest.
There is an anchorage at mile zero of the ICW between Norfolk and Portsmouth (VA). It's called the Hospital Point anchorage. Or you can tie up for free at either of two docks on the Portsmouth waterfront.
The anchorage in Mill Creek by Old Point Comfort and across the water there in Willoughby Bay should both meet your needs, if I understand them correctly. They are both easy in from the Bay, though the Old Point Comfort one is probably a bit closer if you are coming south.
I'm confused. If you're coming down the ICW you won't arrive in Newport, VA. It's north of the beginning of the ICW. Are you coming down the Chesapeake Bay? It might help if we understand why you need a 9 foot anchorage. The Mill Creek anchorage Helbent suggested will fit your needs.
