I just joined today so I hope this is working?
Planning to take delivery on a boat new to me in Annapolis-
Bringing it to Port at Cape canaveral, Fl.

Being as the boat is new to me and my partner, would like to use the intracoastal as much as possible.
Where is my first opportunity to pick it up and where might I have to go outside?

Also tips on any great resturants along the way!!

Thanks for your Knowledge.
Charlie

Re: charliegg

If your mast height is under 65' you can pick it up in Norfolk and take it all the way to Port Canaveral. Mast heights between say 63' and 65' sometimes incur delays waiting for bridge clearance. If your draft is more than 5' you may want to go outside and skip the ICW in Georgia, but you can do it with deeper draft if you time the tides.

Buy one of the ICW guidebooks. I like the one put out by Maptech but also use the one by Waterway Guide. It will have all the info you need to start planning the trip.

Re: charliegg

Make your way from Annapolis to Norfolk-Portsmouth, follow the Elizabeth River to AICW Mile Marker 1, the rest flows from there. No "outside" required unless you have height issues.

See Waterway Guide, any of the several AICW cruising guides (Mile by Mile is useful), ActiveCaptain, etc.

"Great" is a comparative term. Many like the prime rib at Coinjock; we think it varies, generally from pretty good to not bad... After that, most everywhere has at least some kind of feed bag available, and locals can advise (as can the guides).
