Bahama Cruising Permit Fees
Quick question: are Bahama cruising fees payable in cash only or by credit card as well? I apologize for posting this question here, https://www.barabbas.com/wp-content/...vid_lean_0.jpg, but in my defense, I first asked the question in a Bahamian chat room (purportedly operated by the Bahamian government) and was given a phone number to call.

Cash only. And by the way, the Bahamians have never heard of Discover cards.

So that's it then, Terry; henceforth, you shall be considered the messenger of doom! I will carry cash and let the pirates be damned!

Re: Bahama Cruising Permit Fees
As stated it is cash only, except if you show up without cash they will take a check. I don't recommend that approach, but I did it once, forgetting to bring cash, and they took a check. Maybe that was because it was the day after Christmas and the agent was in a good mood.

Re: Bahama Cruising Permit Fees
We've checked in a number of times and always paid cash. Sometimes, in the smaller harbors (e.g., Morgan's Bluff), the paperwork happens at a picnic table, or bench at the dock. No phone or any facilities for accepting electronic money.
Keep it simple and easy - pay the $150 or $300 in cash. You REALLY want the check in process to go without any bumps.

Throughout the Bahamas (even at government facilities), US currency is accepted at par - just the same as Bahamian currency. In fact, you'll never ever have to "exchange". It's kind of fun though, because their currency is colorful and "fun"!

Re: Bahama Cruising Permit Fees
From flying around the Bahamas I found that even at some airports, fuel was cash only. I didn't like carrying a bunch of cash, especially since it was obvious that anyone that flew in had a wad on them, but never had any trouble.

Not so much any more. I usually use it here in the Abacos, for this and the prior 2 trips...

Re: Bahama Cruising Permit Fees
That does not include, however, customs and immigration require cash; most places which accept them charge for cards (not all) 3-5%...

....except that when you go home if you don't want to have Bahamian currency you can't use anywhere else, you may want to exchange back to USD....

I always have asked for a receipt but they always seem to be out of receipts.

This has never happened to me and I have cruised the Bahamas every year since the cruising permit fee ( remember when it was $100? ) was instituted.

Most places are happy to accommodate you as you're on the way out. They understand, and there is no benefit to them to hang on to US scrip...
