Publications like Jimmy Cornell's World Cruising Routes might be a recomendable source of information you seem to be looking for as well, not free though.

Normally the sailboats going down until Canarias and then to the west until Fernando de Noronha and recife .Better way is lower the Ecuador and over 23 degrees south .

Re: South Atlantic weather history
If you want to see the global weather from the GFS model, earth.nullschool.net has it going back to somewhere in 2013. Given a route and a timeframe, you can go back and see what you would have encountered in previous years.
It shows wind, waves, currents, etc.
Would be interested to hear if anyone has a better way to do this.

Re: South Atlantic weather history
[QUOTE=boatman61;3450155] maps show an interesting phenomenon I've noticed before: the South East Tradewinds do not blow over Africa. I noticed this when I was in Kenya. The east side of the mountains were dry and the west side wet--the opposite of what you would expect.

Colour me confused - most of the Brasilian coast is south of the equator, West Africa is north. When is summer ??

You can look at or download pilot charts for the South Atlantic as well as other regions for free. These should give you a fairly good idea of what conditions you can expect for any month of the year.
Click on "Select a Publication" and select South Atlantic
