Seattle to Portland OR: weather in mid-October?

Would anyone with experience sailing off the coast from Seattle to Portland talk about weather during mid-October? Do there tend to be weather windows in those weeks? We are considering buying a boat in Seattle this September & would need to get the boat to Portland in October. Concerns we have are coastal weather and of course, the Columbia river bar. Help appreciated!

I went over the bar last mid-October headed from Portland to Hawaii. Got as far as Newport before the weather closed in and we made a dash for the coast. We were trying to make it between two fronts and got closed out. Weather in October is iffy and you have to really watch it. Can be done but you really have to keep a weather eye and the bar can be very nasty as you know.

Late September on the other hand had some beautiful weather for the trip you have planned.
