I wonder how well the lightning rod (sticking up behind the anchor light) will protect my steel boat.



An enclosed pilothouse protects the helmsman from wind and rain.

Well I've yet to sail in conditions as heavy as the OP described but regardless of the weather I wear polarized sunglasses and intend to get some vented polarized goggles too. Helps to spot logs and other sneaky debris hiding in the water AND really beats getting smacked in the eyeballs with snow and rain I also find a bandana or neck gaiter over the face is a nice addition to keep yer mug from freezing solid
