Passage simulation with weather routing

Does anyone know if either open CPN, Predict Wind, qtvlm, or any other app will allow you to simulate a passage while receiving updated weather data?

I don't know about the choices you provided. I run Nobeltec TIMEZERO marine navigation software along with CMAP chartplotter data on my Surface Pro tablet. It can download weather data and includes currents. Routing scenarios can be run to evaluate time to destination. I don't know if it can provide an optimized routing by itself.

Re: Passage simulation with weather routing

I believe QtVLM does this. You can simulate the entire route with the Grib or multiple gribs loaded and a meteogram built for the route from the detail grib data. You then sail that route virtually and can understand the impact of various wind and sea conditions. We are just playing around with it at present.

Not sure I understand the question, since weather routing is in effect a simulated passage. What do you intepret as the difference?

SailGRIB WR for example will calculate a weather routing using wind/wave GRIBs, current GRIB, boat polars, and a bunch of other parameters. You can then graphically play this calculated route back. Is that what you want?

Go to seaweather.net. Weather routing Inc has this. You can sign up for a free trial I think for two weeks, then there is a subscription. I highly recommend this. I used it very recently and it was invaluable.

Re: Passage simulation with weather routing

Open CPN has a Weather routing plug-in that does do this, yes.

This is what PredictWind is for. That, and departure timing.
