Not Just Hurricanes

Extreme wind on Vancouver Island today. These are the boats breaking loose at the Oak Bay marina.
The posts from down south are helpful. High winds happen everywhere.
I, for one, appreciate the posts with advice for how to weather hurricanes. They certainly apply to all of us.Click image for larger version

Boats torn off of mooring buoys. The boats on the docks were fine. Not sure if the buoys broke free or if the lines chafed through. There was plenty of warning ....

Re: Not Just Hurricanes

Bummer. I hate to see that, and feel for the owners.

I'm on the (canadian) sunshine coast and the wind last night was about as bad as I've heard it in a few years. I was glad that I did not have anything in the water to worry about.

Three-ish years ago there was a pretty severe blow came in to the protected harbour in late summer (late august) when I was out of town. It actually tore the dock apart where a medium-large motor vessel was moored in a boathouse, so my little boat was stranded on a remnant of the finger all by itself that was attached to the pilings, but 25m from the rest of the remaining dock.

My boat is across the harbour, tucked safe in the Marina. Thank goodness! the weather around these parts seams to be getting less stable in the last several years.
