Iridium go! Weather options

Hoping that's with Starlink coming, iridium go! data cost will drop substantially.

Meanwhile what's the easiest and cheapest way to get GRIBs with the iridium go! that's not, of course, with a PW subscription?

Cheers

Re: Iridium go! Weather options

Set up a saildocs account and learn how to request GRIBS. You email query@saildocs.com. It looks something like send GFS:39N,32N,79W,64W|0.25,0.25|0,12,24..72|=
WIND,PRESS
I use a separate email address just for this so that the Go doesn't try to download all my unread emails.

Re: Iridium go! Weather options

Interestingly, Iridium has increased all of their rates beginning Jan-2023. (We have a GO and a phone.)

We use a subscription based email service (UUplus.com; not a typo...) It also integrates with Saildocs for downloading all our Wx products very efficiently. (e.g., WeFax; GRIBs; Sat images, Forecasts, etc.)

UUplus is only useful to those of us who are still bandwidth impared, and may ultimately be obsoleted by ubiquitious adoption of satellite internet access services like Starlink.

In case this is of interest.

Cheers, Bill

x2 for using saildocs. The only catch is that it is difficult to make work with the free Iridium email service. So, you will need to subscribe to something else for email. UUplus, winlink, or sailmail will all work fine.

Why is it difficult? We used the GO! with the Iridium mail client and it worked perfectly fine for sending/receiving Saildocs grib requests and for general emails. What did we miss?

I just wrote a review of Weather 4D on this forum. Still a subscription service but way cheaper ($40 per year) than PW.

You can download gribs with IrridiumGo directly into Weather 4D.
