Historical Weather Data

Forgive me if the solution is easier than my efforts have concluded, buuut:

I have a plethora (not when it comes to piñatas) of online resources that provide current and forecasted weather models, ad nauseam. Are there any resources that convey historical data that I can utilize?

The best info I could find for most of the caribbean is that wind typically comes from the east at +/- 14kts every month. Surely this is over-simplified.

thanks

Re: Historical Weather Data

If you want specific date historical wind data then put in the date on the ASCAT satellite page
https://manati.star.nesdis.noaa.gov/.../ASCATData.php
If you want genetic seasonal data then download the free NOAA pi.ot charts.
If you want a more updated version of the pilot charts with a better presentation, tben get tbe Cornell pilot book

Re: Historical Weather Data

A great visualisation of COGOW (Climatology of Global Ocean Winds) data:

DeepZoom Global Ocean Winds

(an improvement over the original which is at
Climatology of Global Ocean Winds - COGOW )

Re: Historical Weather Data

Thanks fellas!!

The deepzoom interface is what I had in mind. Not as sexy as my predictwind display but i guess beggars can’t be choosers. Thanks again for the pointers.

Re: Historical Weather Data

I just looked at the Deepzoom site. What they are displaying is a 10 year average of the Ascat data that I referenced above. Each average is for a two week window.

Actually it's the QuikSCAT data set 1999-2009, (COGOW was based on the first 5 years of QuikSAT) not ASCAT.

Re: Historical Weather Data

Unfortunately, my opencpn is running on a garbage android platform.

Thanks, Lodesman for the link to the pilot charts!!! I had honestly given up trying to find those in an easy to access location and assumed somebody would've just entered the info to an app (that I also couldn't find).
