Will Calver sailed to
New zealand from the UK with his wife and two youngsters the several years back. we met him along the tradewind
route. He's a photographer, and now has a lovely studio right on the waterfront in
Auckland. One of his pics is finalist for a major competition of yacht
racing photos. There is a public vote and if you follow this link -http://www.yachtracingimage.com/gallery/contest-2013/will-calver/
I think you will agree - he deserves our vote. All the other pics are of high tech expensive machines - but this one captures what most of us can enjoy doing, using the
boat we own to get out on the
water to enjoy a fun
race around the bouys. I feel very connected to this
photo as I know not only Will who took it, but also the subject, Bill Sellers who built his own cruising
boat and sailed it for dozens of years (engine free). Now at 78 he has slowed down and
sails mostly around
New Zealand, and of course gets out for afternoon races.
