Marine Communication Tool - New Vendor - New Product.

Hi Everyone. I’m a new Vendor/Sponsor here on the site and wanted to introduce myself and tell you about my new product.

More than a year ago, I started working in marine electronics. I install and maintain electronics on board ferries to large ships (Container, bulk carriers etc).

After seeing other NMEA testers, I decided to build my own more economically to use at work, and am now selling them.

It has become a valuable tool of my trade.

Below are the features.

  • RS422 terminal view and recording of received data to removable micro SD card.
  • RS422 Header view This mode displays the sentence header and the time between messages.
  • RS422 Playback. This mode displays plays back stored files to the display and to the RD422 serial output.
  • CAN Bus NMEA2000 Data View - PGN, Data, Priority, Source, Destination, Frame Type.
  • CAN Bus NMEA2000 PGN Description view
  • CAN Bus NMEA2000 PGN Header View This mode displays the PGN and the time between PGNs
*The RS422 mode will also display RS232 from most devices.

It is based on slightly modified off the shelf hardware with the software adding the secret sauce.

I write the software so feature requests are encouraged.

Future enhancements planed are NMEA over Ethernet with the addition of an Ethernet module, and updated firmware. NMEA decoding may be implemented if there is sufficient volume and demand.

Should you have any questions, or want a better shipping price to your country feel free to email sales@marinetools.au or reply / DM here.

The instruction manual and web shop are available from www.marinetools.au

Wishing you Fair Winds and Following Seas.

Mal.

Wow.
This looks like a brilliant diagnostic tool. Congratulations on its conception and creation.
It is so neat that I feel like I really need (want) one, but I'm not sure I have an immediate use...!
I wonder if it could include a data accumulator (nmea 183 plus 2000 plus?) and then transmit (WiFi or wired) all the data eg to OpenCPN

Thanks for the kind words.

Funny you should mention that.

I have that functionality in mind for NMEA0183 <> NMEAoE wired.

It would not be a huge leap to add NMEA2000 and wireless to concentrate the data.

I will ponder an approach to that for the future.

Thanks for the ideas.

Hi all, I am looking for feedback and ideas for future development.

Feel free to take a look at the manual and let me know what features I could add that would be useful to you on your boat.

https://www.marinetools.au/mct-instruction-manual

If decoding is important to you let me know what sentences would be most useful.

Cheers,
Mal

Pretty cool. I would imagine this is going to be handy for larger vessels with complex electronics packages, but very cool idea and product.

Are there off the shelf cables for Grove 4 pin JST-PH to NG, Seatalk, etc.
THe warning for only one cable attach at a time is unwelcome. Is that a difficult HW design to fix?

Re: Marine Communication Tool - New Vendor - New Product.

Hi. Thanks for the question. I am using off the shelf hardware so I don't have much flexibility in what connectors to use. At the moment I provide these quick connectors to bridge from the JST to multi meter type probes. These provide the flexibility for the user to connect what they prefer.

Cheers,
Mal

Can you provide another link to the 'quick connectors' as the aliexpress link isn't working for me?
