Re: Right size keel

How long is a string?

Wharram cats with deep vee hulls don't have keels or daggerboards.

Other cats have center or daggerboards and no keels.

Cats have no need for keels for stability reasons. You need something to prevent leeway when sailing upwind.

Keels on cats are for shallow draft and simplicity. How much leeway is acceptable? How shallow do you need your draft to be? There's a lot of possible answers.

Re: Right size keel

As cal40john says.

Cat keels can be anything: a 5 centimeter deep full length sacrificial keel strip; a 0.5-1 metre deep keel that extends anywhere from less than 30% to over 50% of the waterline length; or a 2+ metre deep daggerboard.

It all depends on the design of the particular cat.

You've posted in the Antares Yachts sub-forum. I didn't know they made a 25ft cat.

And what is "the MRS"? Google has difficulty finding anything related to a catamaran and "MRS"

Perhaps his wife? And so far, sounds like she is not related to the cat.

But I think there are some communication issues here...

Doh! After your comment I read it again. It's amazing what a difference correct punctuation and capitalisation can make.

"25 foot cat, the MRS. Will not board untill i get them put on "

is presumably meant to be:

"25 foot cat. The Mrs will not board until I get them put on. "
