Whynter portable

Anybody have one?
Yeah I know, you can't beat an Engel, but at 1/3 the price I'm tempted to give a Whynter a try.
I assume a little less efficient, maybe there is something to that swing compressor after all, but it has to be a BD type of sealed compressor and they are not that inefficient, and I like the digital box temp readout, and oh did I mention 1/3 the price?
OK maybe not 1/3, but close

Re: Whynter portable

I had a 45qt that worked great for 1.5yrs before it pooped out. The electronic control module for the compressor (danfoss knockoff) went out. Tryed to get replacement module from manufacturer (importer) but was told they were on back order. Wish i would of got the Engel instead, which at the time was $250 more.. I ended up replacing it with a 20yr old norcold top load which looks very similar to the Engel. It turns out Norcold also used the Fujisawa swing compressor. I heard the more modern Engel draws a little less.. uses MOSFETs instead of sold state relay switching for more efficiency. Old norcold is built like a tank. A little power hungry at 5-6amps startup than down to 4amp but has been flawless on our 9 month cruise from SF to S America.
