Which 50A Adapter?

I've never had a boat that uses 50A shore power, but I'd like to have an adapter to attach my two 30A connectors to one 50A when that's all that's available.

The question is, which connector is more common on the East coast of N. America?

There are 125V and a 125/250V versions. I understand the difference, but I want to buy the one that I'm more likely to find in marinas I might visit.

What is your boat 50 straight or the 4 pole 125/250V?


If your boat is straight 50A then a 50 to 30 to plug in is all that is necessary.


If your boat is 125/250V, then the much more expensive 2-30 to 125/250 50A smart adapter would be required.


You can get a 125/250 50A adapter that plugs into a single 30A dock receptacle...but it really limits your boat power.

Along with psneeld - these days I think you will find mostly 120/240v 50A connectors vs. the rather 'old' 120v/50A one.

Thanks, I'll look for the 125/250V flavor.

I have two 30A now, and I typically run them both off a "Y" from another 30A outlet. I like to think I'm clever enough not to run too many large AC loads at a time. Plus I have meters I can check if I have any doubts.

I'm curious why you suggest an Echo Charger with a 15A current limit, when the West/Yandina combiners are now available in 100A and 160A versions, far above the original 50/75A versions.

That could easily feed a hungry how thruster bank, either cascaded from the starter, or in parallel with it, so the house bank fed all.
