What lithium battery did you buy and why.

Just wanted to get an idea of what brand lithium ion battery boaters are buying and why and are you satisfied with your decision.

Two Epoch 300AH LFP. Very satisfied. Epoch is based in Atlanta and from what I have read, Insurance companies like a US company. I'll find out this summer.

Re: What lithium battery did you buy and why.

That’s what I was thinking either two 300ah Li Time or the cheaper 300ah version of the Epoch batteries. If one bms goes down I still have the second 300ah house battery. 600ah is more than enough for my house needs.

3 Epoch 105ah heated Lithium's at 25% off just before Black Friday . Cost was less than $800. Read 2 technical reviews re innards (cells used, quality construction etc.) Max discharge current 100A, 200A 10s., 11 year prorated warranty.

Re: What lithium battery did you buy and why.

A year ago based on good performnce over prior 3 years on a buddy boat and price, we installed basic LiTime 3* 200Ah. No problems at all and way way better than the previous 3*200 ah AGM setup. I had to change all my cable ends to M8 terminals and change all the various charger profiles to Li and insertion of 30A DC DC (A better 50A now available) chargers on the start batteries. - none of it hard to do. Freezing temperature is not an issue for us.

Re: What lithium battery did you buy and why.

6 weeks ago, I bought a WattCycle 100Ah Mini just to get a first hand sense of this new (to me) tech.

Everything was perfect at first: Discharged to 40%, then a full charge. All parameters displayed nicely on my phone via Bluetooth. At $195, delivered to my doorstep, this seemed like a win.

Then, after sitting inactive on my work bench for 3 weeks, it appears to have malfunctioned:

Zero voltage at the posts.
Will not accept a charge.
Bluetooth connection is gone.

I have tried to "wake up" the BMS by applying various loads and charge sources, with no change.

Battery temp never went below freezing. Battery was brought inside the house overnight. No change.

Perhaps a "too good to be true" price is just that.

What charger are you using?

Re: What lithium battery did you buy and why.

I had to buy a replacement battery(s) in Cairns in November Replacing 2 Trojan 6v. There were several cheaper lithium options but nothing like this 300 amp hr Epoch. I was hesitant to head off to Indonesia with something that might just have software flakeout.

Ended up with a AGM of Chinese make and reasonable Australian reputation. Single 12v of 150 amp/hr. Days have been long here and fridge has been broken so plenty of power so far.

That 300 Epoch dual purpose looks quite good. I'm about due for batteries in my motorhome also and thinking of going from 3 batteries to 1. Redundancy is not quite as much a concern as the local Walmart is always not far off if an emergency group 27 or something replacement is needed.

In this case, I'd be replacing the current Group 31 house and 2 engine start batteries on a Ford E35O diesel. Had considered doing that with an 8d previously. Makes the charging of house battery much simpler as will charge direct of engine when running. No relay/ combiner/ long wire runs needed.

1 x 300Ah LiTime based on reviews. Very satisfied with the massive improvement over previous lead setup.

Re: What lithium battery did you buy and why.

I bought 4 of these from FEENCE

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BDD196Y5...n_title_3&th=1

They are not "smart" batteries as they have no bluetooth, although they do have a version that does. But they are now only $120 each.

They have been working just great for over a year, I've never had a bit of problem. I have 400watts of solar running through 2 Victron chargers. They power everything including 2 portable coolers, one set up as a freezer.

The Victron chargers have a nice Bluetooth app that allows me to see the state of charge. I have found this to be all I need.

Simple system, less to worry about, I like it.

I installed 6 x 300 LiTime batteries on my new boat, super happy with them. I installed 4 x 300 LiTime batteries and for 3 years they ran perfect.

Re: What lithium battery did you buy and why.

We didn’t buy a LFP battery - we bought 4 cells of Winston Thundersky 700Ah 3.2V cells and built a 12V 700Ah LFP battery. More complex as it needs an external BMS. Replaced 6x 110Ah AGM batteries Took the opportunity to take out the propane galley and update the boat’s 20 year old wiring. Not a drop in and relax situation that you may be looking for, but we were wanting to optimise our electrical system for full time live aboard and remote cruising. So far so good, and upgrading with 4 more cells to make a 24V house system.
