Victron Centaur

Hello,

Just installed a Victron 24v 30 amp Centaur in my mates vessel. House bank and engine banks are both 24v 200Ah. All connected to the Victron specs, but the batteries are boiling when we turn on the AC to the charger.

All battery cells test 100%.

Any ideas ?

What is the voltage at the batteries when the Centaur is in bulk?

Hello,

The batteries at rest (with the AC to the charger off) is 24.4

The charger gets the batteries up to 28.2 in about 15 minutes and continues to clime up to 29.1 and keeps climbing.

I turned off the AC to the charger after 4 hours.

well depending of the switch settings Absorption voltage can be up to 29.7V, change the settings to LA or AGM and the absorption voltage will be set at 29.0 or 28.7 .


Sounds like the switch is set to "Other".

The switch is set for LA, as they are lead acid batteries. Switch 1 on (up), switch 2,3 off (down).

How old are the batteries? The info you have provided indicates that either the charger suffered infant mortality or the batteries are sulphated and/or stratified and will no longer accept a charge.

Hello,

Engine bank is about 6 months old. House bank is just over a year old. I checked each cell today, and the engine bank is at 100%. House bank is at 80 to 90%.

I feel the house bank is the issue. I will disconnect it and test the charger with only the engine bank.
