Universal M40b 51 amp alternator high output

Hello, I recently busted my alternator mount and had it rewelded. Upon reinstalling the alternator I find i am having very high output. 15+ volts. I had a small arc when I was reinstalling it not sure between what and what. Did I bust the regulator? I am finding myself majorly stuck in a very expensive marina in west end bahamas. Is it possible to safely disconnect the alternator for the trip home?

15+ Volts....ya, sure sounds like your internal voltage regulator is fried.

As long as you have enough power, you can disconnect the field wire and motor back to Florida....no problems....well, maybe depending on how your wiring is, you may also lose your tachometer.

Never mind!!! Fixed it. The S lead had snapped. I'm assuming S is for sensor? For the regulator? Anyway we are back down to 14.5 volts. Few!!!
