Unbalanced Solar Panels

I presently have two (2) 100 watt panels and wanting to increase to 300 watt total but can only afford to upgrade one at a time. Is that a problem..yes my controller will handle 300 watt.

Re: Unbalanced Solar Panels

So you intend to replace the 100 Watt panels with 150 Watt panels, one at a time?

If so, there shouldn't be any problems. Just wire them the same way they are currently.

Re: Unbalanced Solar Panels

Its fine
I have 2 x 120 watts and 2 x 70 watts thru the 1 controller and they play like happy children.

If one was a 200 watt panel then there would be a problem because of the higher PV.

Re: Unbalanced Solar Panels

I'm pretty sure you can have mismatched solar panels (same voltage) no problem. It's mismatched batteries that are more problematic.

Re: Unbalanced Solar Panels

Yes my intent is to replace each of the 100 watt panels with 150 watt panels but one at a time...there is no wiring to be done in that its a matter of unplugging and plugging in the 150 unit... no other changes is anticipated.
